THE SALEMITE March 5, 1948 Press Group Will Meet The North Carolina Collegiate Press Association will hold its sec ond postwar meet at Duke Univers ity March 18, 19 and 20, according to an announcement today by Clay Felker, Webster Groves, Mo., pres ident of the association and associ ate editor of the Duke Chronicle. About 200 editors and business managers of collegiate publications are expected for the convention. They will represent 35 universities, colleges and junior colleges in North Carolina. The program for the convention will feature a number of leaders in the field of journalism: Harry Mar tin, president of the American News paper Guild; Roscoe Ellard, associ ate dean of Columbia University School of Journalism: Jack Lait, ed itor of the New York Daily Mirror; Sidney Standard, news editor of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch; J. G. Tay lor Spink, publisher of The Sporting News; and representatives from Mademoiselle, Junior Bazaar and the fashion editor of the St. lo\lis Post- Dispatch. Officers of the NCCPA in addition to Felker are Jim Gribben, David son College, vice-president, Peggy Davis, Salem, secretary; Ken Coble, State College, treasurer; and Dr. E. E. Folke, Wake Forest College, per manent secretary. Coed Team Closes Season The regular season of basketball play has ended for the YMCA Lea gues. Both Salem “A” and “B” teams ended the season near the middle of the League standings. At present, the combined forces are entered in a post-season YMCA Gold Medal Tournament, being play ed at the “Y” Gym. The team won the first gime on Monday night against the Waughtown Baptist Church Team, by a score of 57-43, with Charles Routh and Norman Jar- rard holding the high scoring honors. The team goes against the Old Rich mond team in the tournament Semi- Finals on Thursday night, the win- j ner playing in the Finals on Friday j night. 1 The team is planning to hold a! banquet at the conclusion of the Tournament play for players and guests.
