Feel Shopivom ? Shop Refreshed Ballet Russe Will Dance At Reynolds Auditorium The Ballet Russo de Monte Carlo will return to Winston-Salem this month after an absence of three years. Marvin McDonald, concert mana ger of Atlanta, will present the troupe in its return appearance here at 8:30 p. m. Wednesday, January 26; at Reynolds Auditorium. Tickets are on sale at Bland Music Store, 422 West Fourth Street. The Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, which is celebrating its tenth anni versary in America this year, will be headed by Alexandra Danilova as prima ballerina and Frederic Franklin as moitre de ballet and premier danseur—both of whom were in Winston-Salem when the company appeared here in 1946. Appearing in major roles also will be Nathalie Krassovska, Leon Dan ielian, Ruthanna Boris, Mary Ellen Moylan, and Roman Josinsky. A corps de ballet of forty dancers and a symphony orchestra with Ivan Boutnikoff and Paul Strauss as con ductors complete the company. The program will be composed of “Le Pas de Quatre,” the well- known ballet for four ballerinas which was first performed at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London in July 194.0, divertissments from "Raymonda” in the version in which Alexandra Danilova and Geo rge Balanchine collaborated; and a new production, “Quelques Fleurs,” for which the choreography was done by Ruthanna Boris, a member of this troupe. The three speakers are represen tatives from the Carolina Dramatic Association, and they discuss vari ous phases of stage production. After an introduction by Dr. Welch on ‘ ‘ The Importance of Dramatics Educational Progress”, Sam Hirsch, publicity director for the Carolina Playmakers, actor, and playwright, will speak on ‘‘Problems of the Director.” Dr. A. Antona- kos, also of the University, is to discuss and demonstrate various techniques of stage make-up. Fol lowing this, Tommy Rezutto, stu dent assistant in the Carolina Play- makers scene shop, will discuss and answer questions about the making of stage sets. Dr. Hirsch, the main speaker for the workshop, has worked as assis tant business manager for the Play- makers, taught acting at the Uni versity, and acted parts in the Lost Colony, ‘‘School for Husbands”, ‘‘The Mikado”, and ‘‘Hamlet”. He is now directing a new play by Gene McLain, ‘‘Inherit the Winds”, for the Playmakers, and is working on his own full-length satirical comedy about war. He holds an A. B. and an M. A. degree in Dramatic Arts from the University, and has done graduate work with the Neighbor hood Playhouse School of the Thea tre in New York City.
