Spring Season
Opens With
Softball
by Jan Ballentine
Softball season is well on the
way n«w with a double-header
opening the season. Rain has de
layed some of the previous plan^
ned games. The first game was
between the Freshman and Seniors
with the Seniors winning 17-8
Peggy Watkins pitched for the Sen
iors and Sara Lou Davis for the
Freshman. In spite of their loss
the Freshman made several except
ionally pretty plays. With the aid
of the pitcher, Lisa Munk playing
first and Emily Warden as catcher
made a nice double out. Heavy-
hitters for the game were Carolyn
Taylor, who made the only home
run, Nancy Wray, jand Orpha Gate-
wood. The Sophomores led in at
tendance for this game.
With Gammy Lovelace and Ann
Eixey alternating pitching position,
the Sophomores defeated the Jun
iors 14-8. Ann Spencer was one of
the most outstanding players; she
is the Sophomore third baseman.
Eula Mae Cain pitched for the Jun
iors. Heavy-hitters for this game
were Effie Chonis and Ann Pleas
ants.
