Vicki Triumphs Again;
Wins Championship Twice

Vicki Hamilton now holds the
title of Womens Champion of the
Forsyth Club for the second year
in succession. Vicki, a member of
the junior class, has been playing
golf since she was eight years old
when she started to follow her
parents around the course.
During the summer, Vicki won
another title to add to her col
lection. She won the first flight
in the North South Carolina Junior
Girls Golf Tournament. Besides
winning the title she added a silver
bread tray to her growing prize
collection.
In this recent tournament at the
Forsyth Club Vicki defeated Miss
Jess Byrd in the semi-finals on the
16th hole 3 to 2 and she said, “she
surely did give me a hard time.”
She also said that she was almost
as thrilled with her prize, a silver
ice bucket complete with tongs and
bottle opener, as she was with win
ning the title.
Outside of the golf world, Vicki
is a junior marshal and a member
of the lecture committee here at
school.

a reporter for the newspaper when
Dr. Gramley was advisor there.)
He is from Bethlehem, Pennsyl
vania, but his wife is a native of
Winston-Salem. Two children ages
six and three complete the Sawyer
family.
In spite of a heavy schedule Mr.
Sawyer finds time to devote to his
hobbies of golf and gardening. He
is a baseball fan, too, an ardent
Cleveland admirer.
Of Salem, Mr. Sawyer said he
e.ppreciated the atmosphere for
ylf-improvement, the friendliness,
and found the girls far more re
sponsive than he had dreamed.
At the end of a pleasant informa
tive half-hour, I left Mr. Sawyer’s
office, impressed by his many in
terests and activities, his sincerity,
and the fact that he has a great
deal to offer his students here at
Salem.
