May 5, 1950 THE SALEMITE Page Three Logan Solves Old Problem, Tells Where, What To Eat By Logan Vaught The dining, hall is fine on a rainy Monday when you’ve just had a quiz in Advanced Speculation on the Punctuation in the 1949 edition of Einstein’s Theory, or on any week-day when your hair is stringy, you’re wearing Dad’s old shirt and absolutely reek of sun-tan oil; but there comes a time in the life of every Salemite when “eating out” is the most beautiful phrase in the .world. Naturally, the best way to eat out is with a date. If you’re for tunate enough to trap one, try Michael’s—pronounced the French way, please !—, complete with French-speaking waiters and filet mignon. Don’t order lobster if 'you’re an animal-lover. You pick your own from a basket of live, ones. If you want romantic music and a quiet formal background for trapping some unsuspecting man, try the dining room of the Robert E. Lee Hotel. Or if tis good food and I-don’t-mind-the-noise-sounds- like-S i a n Kenton-and-working-en- the-science-b u i 1 d i n g, try Bliss’, right across from the hotel. If you nourish secret dreams of becoming a second Amelia Earhart, try the restaurant at the Smith Reynolds Airport. The food’s “fair to mid dlin’”, but the pilots who come in are worth it! As a guest of a member of one of Winston-Salem’s clubs, you can have swanky atmosphere, out-of- this-world-food, and sometimes music. 'Course, you can always climb in a window, but it’s easier to dash out to the Cottage for a sandwich and a chocolate milk shake. Banners is one of those versatile places where you can go, dressed in your Sunday-best, with a date, and eat inside, or stay in the car and eat, in jeans, .after a study jag. You can go inside at the Pea cock too, but the light nevCr lets you know whether you’re eating your steak or the table-cloth. The Toddle House for sheer in formality, by all means. Always get a cheeseburger de luxe and an order of hash browns, and don’t forget to walk on the counter. And nothing can beat Morris Ser vice as a place to meet people or to order fried oysters and chocolate pie. ‘ Then there’s Welfare’s or Gooch’s for between-class coffee, or even class, if you’re blessed with unbelievable persuasive power. Or, if you haven’t got a date, no car parked in front of school, twelve tests tomorrow, and no cur rency except what you could make yourself up in the art lab, there’s always Mr. Snavely, with his charge accounts and candy, Fritos, Chee- Wees, Pretzels, Sandwich spread.
