May 12, 1950 the S A L E MIT E Juniors Win Tournament The Junior class won the spring softball tournament. Two games were pla3fed Wednesday afternoon; one between the Juniors and the Seniors, and one between the Jun iors and the Freshmen. The Jun iors won both of them, the score of the former being 13-1 and the latter 8-4. The Sophomore class team came in second in the tournament. The sophomores seemed to get off on the right foot, Tuesday of this week, when the Senior-Sopho more softball game was finally played. A first inning homer hit by Lisa Munk scored Dotty Clem- mer, as the top of the sophomore batting order started the ball roll ing. The seniors couldn’t seem to get their field coordination as the sophomores really went to work. But they weren’t beaten yet, for in the second inning Bunny Peirce’s third strike proved to be a break as she safely got. to first base on the third strike rule. The fault of senior fielders was also to be found among the sophomores; both teams were by no means up to par as the sophomores won 18-7. Swim Meet Despite the slightly overcast sky, the swimming meet was held here as scheduled, Tuesday, May 9. Although the diving was cancelled, the swimming competition was car ried out, accompanied by the cheers of the spectators. The winners in the form events were Jane School- field, breaststroke and backstroke; Emily Warden, sidestroke; and Jeff Forrest, freestyle. The speed events were won by Emily Warden in the sidestroke, Lisa Munk in the backstroke, and Eleanor McGregor in the freestyle and breaststroke. All in all the turn out for this meet was not as good as it could have been. However, although en thusiastic participation in the vari ous events was lacking, those girls out there in the water certainly did show the best of sportsman ship and skill. WALKER’S FLORIST 115 N.
