Page Four THE SALE MITE December 7 iQcj Puppy Is Bitting’s New Addition Had you spent Monday night in Bitting Dormitory, you would prob ably have been awakened by the squeeling of a little black dog which belongs to Emily Warden. Emily was doing her all dat practice teaching Monday at Gray High School. During physical education class, Emily went out on the playground to watch her eighth grade boys play football. The dog under discussion ran out on the field, and Emily picked her up to keep her from being hit by the players. After class, the boys wanted Emily to bring the dog back to Salem, which she promptly did. Russell Warmed Milk Russell Crews, the chief cook, warmed some milk for the dog, and Mrs. Cummings, the dietician, gave Emily a box which Emily lined with her Salem sweat shirt for the dog’s bed. The next step was warming and defleaing the pup. This was accomplished by Emily with much help from the senior class. Since the dog was found at Gray High School and is a lady, Emily has named her Gray Lady. The seniors are spoiling her, for at every meal you can see food being saved for Gray Lady and brought out under the watchful eye of Emily. The future for Gray Lady is not certain, but it is certain that she has won a fond place in the hearts of all the seniors. Roaring Twenties Stages Comeback In Davy Amid Flappers^ Flivvers And Raccoon Coats By Emma Sue Larkins III Davy Jones Euber Roberts was posing as a flapper while Betty Tyler sketched her likeness on the wall. Every now and then Euber would relax by doing a few steps of the Charleston. “The Roaring Twenties” is staging a comeback as new decorations in Davy Jones progress. Betty Tyler is chairman of the committee to sketch the drawings on the walls. Bobbie Kuss, Elaine Williams and Florence Swindell are her assistants. So far they have sketched a flapper doing the Charleston, a shiek in a raccoon coat, a flivver and a football player conversing with a flapper cheer leader. The flappers have the traditional short, straight hair-dos, tight skirts and long waistlines. The flivver looks as dilapidated and dangerous as in the days of the Big Apple, and the shiek with the raccoon coat would put Valentino to shame. The curtains will further empha size the theme of the 20’s. Co- chairmen Ann Robertson and Patsy Gattis reveal that the curtains will be of yellow cotton-satin with ruffles of red calico. The}^ also plan to cover the piano stool to match the curtains. Lou Bridgers has alreadj" painted the piano a light cream color. All the Clewell girls are taking turns painting the tables, chairs and benches a bright green under the direction of Betsy Turner, painting chairman. Eurther decoration plans are still in the idea stage. Clewell resi dents hope to raise money to cover the benches to match the curtains and put cushions in the chairs. They are also considering painting song titles on the piano that were “Reznick’s For Records” REZNICK’S ■k MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS ★ SHEET MUSIC ★ RECORDS Complete Jewelry Dept. Across From State Theatre 440 N. Liberty Dial 2-1443 famous in Mom and Dad's day. So far the work has progressed smoothly with only a few mishaps. Joan Shope got paint on her only pink skirt, and Kay Cunningham’s toe nails are still green after step ping in the paint can. While Kay is looking more and more like the Green Knight of the Sir Gawain story, Davy Jones is looking more and more like “The Roaring Twenties”—thanks to the Clewell flappers. There will probably be a house warming party when the decorat ing is completed. NewsBriefs The A. U W. and the alun,. nae club of Wmston-Salem wHi hold the fourth joint-meeting . Salem College.
