Page Four THE SALEMITE January 1 1 iqct Holiday Glitter Returns In Salemites’ New Diamonds By Emma Sue Larkins Many Salemites have brought back from vacation the twinkle of Christmas lights, the sparkle of tinsel and the glow of Christmas candles ■— all combined on their third finger, left hand. Beth C o u r s e y received a ring from Jack Wilson of Pilot Moun tain and Camp Gordon, Ga. She said as Jack gave her the ring its sparkle was exceeded only by the flashing of the neon signs which read: "Hamburgers 2S(f and Cheese burgers 35^.” Beth and Jack will be married June 28. P®Kgy Britt and Frank Keel were likewise engaged under the bright lights of “Brink’s Place” in Kinston, N. C. They will be mar ried whenever Uncle Sam makes it convenient. A little more silent was Patsy Crawford when Dick Borden gave her a ting. It was in the after noon. Patsy said, “Everyone in the house was taking a nap. I was Patronize Our Advertisers sleepy, but the ring did the trick —haven’t been able to sleep since!” Jean Patton says her family might as well have been asleep. .She and her fiance. Bob French, went to a family Christmas party, and the folks didn’t even notice her ring. Jean and Bob plan to be married in June. Iverson Riddle, who attends Carolina, gave Caroline Huntley a ring right before a Christmas party also. Their wedding plans are indefinite. Also tentative are the wedding plans of Cacky Post and Jimmy Connally. Cacky was sick in bed when she got her ring. She feels much better now. Skeet Hesmer of Salem, Va. and Mable Taylor will be married in August or September. They will live in Washington, D. C. which Mable terms “very romantic.” A little less romantic is the spot where Mable received her ring. It was in front of a laundry right after she got off the bus. Anne Robertson says Zeb Mor gan pinned her at an essential, but unromantic place—a cafe in Char lotte while they were eating lunch. Mary Campbell Craig was pinned by Gene Funderburk eighteen min utes after Leap Year came in. Mary Campbell says, “Leap \ear should come more often.” Kappy Green didn’t wait for Leap Year or even Christmas. Max Sides, her fiance came all the way from Alaska to give her a ring before the holidays began. The freshman class representa tive of this select group is Betty Ann Pivers. Her fiance is George i Sheppard.
