No, I’m not scared. I should be. I guess I will be after I actually get going.” Marian grinned as she recalled her first reaction to being elected president of Student Government. Even at a 7:30 a.m. interview, Marian was full of energy as she had a cup of coffee in one hand and expressed her surprise with the other. She took a last bite of her biscuit as she thought of an answer. “Guess I’ll go to work,” she mused, “Here in Winston-Salem directing choirs and doing young people’s work, I hope.” The thought of staying in Wins- j ton-Salem seemed to be a pleasant I one for Marian. C. and will enter the army as a second lieutenant after graduation. 1 Whatever the future holds, Mar- Tan finished her last swallow of j c o f f e e enthusiastically as she thought of the excitement of her new office. As she left to attend her 8:30 a.m. class, Marian smiled while saying, “I guess Margaret and I will be spending quite a bit of time together in the future.” May Pageant Will Have Toyland Theme The May Day Program prepara tions are now under way. The dresses for the May Court are being selected, and work is being done on the script. This year’s May Day theme will not be rustic lovers, but will be about children, pandas and animals. The Modern Dance Club is in charge of the dances, and they will begin their rehearsals the mid dle of March. If anyone is in terested in being in the dances, she is asked to sign-up on the sheets that will be placed in each dorm, Betty Parks, May Day chairman, has announced. They eat dt birthday parties be cause one is not socially accepted unless she talks at a birthday party with food in her mouth. Everyone eats. It’s necessary-— it’s fun—and it’s fattening. When that newly acquired pound joins forces with the other old pounds, the girl begins to think “diet” for a few days. A few days is all that it will last, for “breathes there a girl with soul so dead, who to a chocolate cake hath said, Tm on a diet’.” After an evening, or a week, or a year, you get tired of her good- looking legs and wish the woman had some sense. She lives in Winston- Salem with her aunt during the school year. She was vice-presi dent of her freshman class last year and is active in the Methodist student organization. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dobson of Elkin. Flu Epidemic Light Salem was comparatively lightly hit by the recent flu epidemic. City schools were forced to close last Feb. 25 at the height of the epidemic. According to a report from the infirmary, six girls were forced to remain in bed with the flu. Con finement periods varied from two days to a week. Sophomores To Be Tested A meeting of all sophomores will be held on March 11 at 2:00 p.m. in Old Chapel. Flans To Tour Europe When asked what she did with her summers, Marian wrinkled her brow and said: “Well, next sum mer I am going to Europe with Miss Byrd’s group. Last summer I went to summer school and the summer before that I broke my foot and played helpless for three months.” Then Marian paused. “And what about the summer following grad- Frosh To Have Talent Show The Freshman Class made plans at a meeting last Monday for a talent show to be given Saturday night, March 22, as a part of Par ent’s Week-end. The program will be held in Davy and will provide informal entertainment for the parents after dinner in the club dining room. The talent show will feature a skit and various musical numbers. At the same meeting tenative plans were made for a freshman chapel program, but no definite date has been set. The purpose of this meeting is to help the individual to know her abilities and to choose her major field. Tests will be given on March 13, 20 and 25 for personality, voca tional interests, general culture and contemporary affairs. Details of this meeting will be disclosed at a later date.
