Page Elight THE SALEMITE May 2. iQq-) Mr. Brown McAllister To Talk At Y Vespers Sunday Mr. Brown McAllister Mr. Br.own McAllister will speak at Sunday Vespers May 4 in the Friendship Rooms of Strong at 5:15 p.in. His topic will be “Mak ing Life Beautiful”. Mr. McAllister was born in Mt. Pleasant. He attended the public schools there and then went to Lenoir Rh3'ne College in Hickory. He also attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He taught at Mt. Pleasant High School, was Principal of Coltrane Elementary School in Concord, and he is now Superintendent of the Concord City Schools. Mr. McAllister is active in many churches throughout North Caro lina and is also a member of numer ous civic organizations in Concord. He is a well known speaker among the young people of his vicinity and teaches a young mar ried couple’s Sunday School class. Mr. McAllister is unmarried. Rising Sophs Elect Officers The rising sophomore class elect ed new officers for the coming year at a meeting last Monday. Those chosen include vice-presi dent Jean Hamrick; secpetary. Sue Jones; treasurer, Betsy Liles and historians, Ann Edwards and Bryan Bowman. Jean is a day student from Win ston-Salem. Sue is from Charlotte; Betsy and Bryan, from Wadesboro and Ann, from Bluefield, W. Va. Little Theater Qives O’Neill's Ah, Wilderness The Little Theater presented “Ah, Wilderness,” a light comedy by Eugene -O’Neill, in Reynolds Auditorium last Tuesday. Doris Pardington, as director, cast Jimmy Turner, Clarke Billings, and Nancy Alexander in the leading roles. O’Neill, a noted tragedian, de viated from his usual style to comedy in “Ah, Wilderness. It was his only light-hearted produc tion, but it successfully ran on Broadway for nearly 300 perfor mances, 20 years ago. The play is concerned with New England family life shortly after the turn of the century. The character of the little boy is cen tered around his love of literature and romance. He continual!)' shocks his stuffy neighbors and is counselled by an understanding father.
