To William Acker In June
Mr. and Mrs. Alonza T. Watson of Fayetteville announce the en
gagement of their daughter, Marion Dearborn, to William Ervin Acker
of the U. S. Army, son of Mr. and Mrs. James B. Acker of Fayette
ville.
The wedding will take place June 4, at the First Presbyterian
Church Chapel in Fayetteville at 3 :30 p.m.
■ Marion, a history major, has
been very active on the editorial
staff of the Salemite. She was
also president of the Order of the
Scorpion this year. She worked
with the Youth Fellowship of the
Home Moravian Church in con
nection with her religious class.
Acker left Davidson to go into
the army last year. When he is
discharged, he expects to. return to
Davidson to receive his degree.

Awarded Title
Lu Long Ogburn won the title
“Miss Splash Day” before a crowd
of 150,000 people at Galveston,
Texas May 4. .
Lu Long entered the contest as
Miss North Carolina. She traveled
to Texas with her mother and Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Cooper from
Durham. Mr. Cooper, photograp
her on the Durham Herald Sun,
took the picture which qualified
Lu Long’s entrance into the UPPA
contest.

its new officers for 1952-53. New
president is Alison Britt, vice-presi
dent is Bobbi Kuss, secretary is
Carolyn Dobson and treasurer is

Committee held a meeting in the
living room of Strong last Thurs
day night. The topic under dis
cussion was Salem’s philosophy of
education.

dent of the Alumnae Association,
from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m. The
