November 21, 1952 Betty Morrison Wins Tennis Singles In Play Day At Greensboro College By Donald Caldwell “Tennis is more fun than boys, almost,” said Betty Morrison, blond Salem freshman who won ■ the tennis singles in Greensboro. Rushing from one match to an other, Betty defeated her first two opponents 6-0 and 6-1. After “swallowing a hot dog,” Betty met Joan Milthrope of Catawba Col lege in the final match. Betty won this match 6-1. Last summer Betty won the Asheville Tennis Tournament and represented Asheville in the State Championship Tournament in Greensboro where she reached the semi-finals. Here at Salem Betty is a freshman class representative on the A. A. Council. Two freshmen, Sandy Whitlock and Sally Knight, represented Salem in the tennis doubles. They lost their first match to Catawba College 6-3. The Salerh volleyball team with Susan Glaser as captain lost their first game to a strong Atlantic Christian College team. During Rat Week, I blinked in amazement as I watched poor Temple stumble in the room, tired, with dish-pan-hands, ,a humped back from making beds, and sore feet from walking to the grocery store. However, she survived and lived to be elected to the Rat Week committee for next year! One time I overheard Temple remarking that if she didn’t learn another thing at Salem, she wanted ' to learn to cook and — oh, here comes Temple now, and she’s going to cut me off—goodbye.
