Christmasy Colored Dresses Will Spark Saturday’s Dance By Connie Murray Red and white candy canes, the music of Reg Marshall and his orchestra, and the festive atmos phere of a gaily decorated gym what more could one want for the Christmas dance at Salem? And if you happen to be in the gym Saturday night, you will see many Salemites. Elsie Macon, who will be the B. W. O. C. as I. R. S. president, will lead the figure with a Carolina man, Steve Jones. She will be wearing a white net dress. Bobbie Kuss will dress sorta like Santa Claus, in red velvet, that is, when she dates Ray Deal. The dress is ankle length. Connie Barnes will forget her Bitting inmates and the fact that she is Bitting’s “mother” and don a white net dress to date Bob Carter. Nellie Ann Barrow will be wear ing a purple net evening dress for her date with Cecil Rhodes, a stu dent at Bowman Gray. White A Favorite Ken Hines should certainly find the trip from Raleigh worthwhile. He will date Becky Powers, who will wear a white net dress. A dress of red velvet is guaran teed to set a holiday mood for Selma Jean Calhoun and Clay Foreman, Jr. The dress, which will be worn by Jean, has two red velvet roses on the net skirt. Mary Scott Livingston, the only industrious one, is making her dress for the dance. The bodice will be white brocade, and the skirt, pink net. Her date is Car- roll Stegall. Pat Locke will abandon Texas boots for red velvet slippers to date local talent. She will wear a champagne-colored satin dress when she attends the dance with Marvin Ferrell. Escorting Marian Lewis to the big affair will be Charles Avera. Marian will abandon her Stee Gee expression for a more carefree one to wear with her green net dress. Alison Britt will be without her marshall dress but with Rennie Randolph, who is sure to like her navy blue velvet cocktail dress. She will also wear blue velvet shoes. Chartreuse net and plaid taffeta ■—that’s what she said—form the dress to be worn by Bebe Boyd. She will be accompanied by Tommy Tilson. Betsy Forrest will be at the dance in champagne—don’t get ex cited—colored net, with her “pin- nee”, Jim Richmond. The “red-head from Raleigh” will date the gal in the green dress. (Should be Christmasy!) Those concerned are Foggy Mann and Kay Cunningham. Carol Glaser will make her ap pearance in blue net, minus the little red hat, with Julius Green. Green net dress and green satin shoes will be donned by Carolyn “O’” Kneeburg. Her laddie is T. Kepling. Jean Edwards will wear Tommy Turlington and date pink net. (Those durn printers I) Senator Myers will be down from Washington to date his fiancee. Congresswoman Myra Dickson. She will be wearing grey net. Sue Harrnson is bound to rate “100” with Zero Kennedy in her dress of white French illusion. (Bet she won’t be any illusion.) Inside a crimson nylon tulle dress and beside Sam Hayter will be Dora Cameron. Dating the President’s son is 'Maggie Blakeney. Her choices are Hugh and a gold dress. The Shopes will forsake their “twinsy” look for the dance. Jean, in white net, will date Stan Ken- nett, and Joan, in orchid net, will date Mai Bennett. (Try to rhyme those last names.) They’ll be there in net, with Kennett and Bennett I Gold and champagne net will be worn by Laura Mitchell for Edgar Toms from Durham. Bubba Clayton of the U. S. Army will be with Jo Bell of Bit ting fame. (Jo has cons^ented to forget the May Day for the night.) She will wear green because “it goes so well with khaki.” We hope Molly Quinn knows Joe Urschell’s voice—she’ll be at the dance without her glasses. Molly’s dress is white lace and net, ac cented with rhinestones. UNC will miss Bob Glenn, but the feeling will not be mutual. Bob is dating Frankie Strader, who will wear a wine-colored taffeta dress. Ann Campbell — a . dark-haired beauty — will certainly help the looks of a red satin dress. Her outfit will need no doctoring from her Bowman Gray date, John Ed monds. And as for me—well, you’ll see me at the entrance door, checking to see that everyone wears what she said she would. This was the opening sentence in Fredrick Larsen’s speech in chapel Tuesday. Mr. Larsen is the architect for the building of the new Wake Forest College here in Winston-Salem. Site Selected Mr. Larsen’s job began seven years ago when he was invited to visit the Reynolds Estate and pick a suitable site for the college. Next he decided that, since Wake Forest has had a “simple and dignified history”, the architecture of the new college should also be simple and dignified. The organization of buildings on the campus will also be simple in style. The upper campus will be arranged about a square with the chapel as the dominent building. A terrace will slope to the lower or academic campus. Plans Chcinge Mr. Larsen completed his plans two years ago, but he said that he has been constantly making changes because the planning is “like a chess game”—all the moves cannot be seen at once. Mr. Larsen stressed the fact that the architecture of the new Wake Forest is not “trick” architecture. There are no modern buildings, but rather the simple graciousness that is fitting for a Southern college. The Student Union which is op posite the chapel, on the upper campus square, will be a perfect example of this simple graciousness.
