M. S. Pinafore” will be pre sented at 8:30 'p,m. Feb. 27 and 28 at Reynolds Auditorium. Miss Catherine Nicholson, Salem English teacher, is helping with the staging of the production, which will be given by the Win ston-Salem Operetta Association. Two Winston-Salem high school students, Lynn Hamrick and Sue Durham, pupils of Mrs. Nell Starr, will appear in the operetta. The role of Buttercup will be played by Miss Gwen Ewell. The admission price is $1.00. enqpquinq cj: TV engineers from NBC net work rolled their cameras on Salem campus for a whole day last week. They were taking shots of the campus and of Old Salem to be presented on the TV show Camel Caravan sometime this spring. The date will be announced later. The reason for the visit of the engineers and cameramen was the dedication of the 2 million dollar research laboratory at R. J. Rey nolds Tobacco Co. last Thursday. The cameramen took shots of Old Salem, Inc. headquarters, street scenes. Brother’s House, Sister’s House, Salem Tavern, Home Mo ravian Church, South Hall, John Vogler house, the Keehln house, the sitting room of the College Alumnae house, Link-Boner House, Joshua Boner house, and a scene in the Wachovia Museum. Included in the scene of the Alumnae House sitting room were two Salemites dressed in Old Salem costumes. They were Jean Daven port, a senior from Rocky Mount and Nancy Huffard, a junior from Bluefield, V. Rehearsals for the forthcoming production of Menotti’s opera, “The. Medium,” are being held nightly.- According to the latest reports Miss Margaret Vardell will make her singing debut in this performance. This week-end the Choral En semble will give two Sunday con certs. Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. fhe group will sing at the Winston-Salem Teacher’s College. At 7:30 that night the Ensemble will present a program of sacred music at the Kernersville Mora vian Church. Mr. Paul Peterson, director of the Chorale Ensemble, and Mrs. Nell Starr, Salem voice teacher, will attend the North Carolina Chapter of the National Associa tion of Teachers of Singing. Salem students should have a special interest in the Metropolitan Opera broadcast at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The performance will be Igor Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress with the libretto written by W. H. Auden and Chester Kail- man. Mr. Auden appeared at Salem in December as speaker for the Lecture 'Series. Shopes Are Injured Jean and Joan Shope and their father suffered minor injuries in an automobile accident Saturday night. Their car collided . with another at the Louisburg-W a k e Forest intersection on their way to their grandfather’s funeral in Wilson. They were taken to Rex Hospi tal in Raleigh.
