May 8, 1953 THE SALEMITE Paee .Three Grapevine Bring From Davidson, By Donald Caldwell A lot of things have happened here at Salem and on other “campi.” The snow has melted away and carriers have brought me the news. Seems as though the Davidson freshmen have been starving all winter, but at last Davidson has decided to feed them in the college cafeteria. If only the Salem Home Ec. majors had known that all those lovely boys were not getting fed! State College has decided to cut dowm on the money they give for athletic scholarships and they are giving more scholastic scholarships. Maybe some of us Salem girls can get to State on a scholarship now. Colleges Vote Every college paper seems to be filled with electidn news. All the schools were excited over electing new officers. Carolina’s two party system and its political editorials seem like a different world. Woman’s College is getting ahead s "Campi” News State, Virginia of us. They had a Consolidated University Affair and invited both State and Carolina over. Since there are 2,500 W. C. girls, 1 can understand why we had a hard time getting dates. The fraternities at the Univer sity of Virginia took in more pledges this year than they have since 1949! You know' what that means, girls ? More invitatioris to Virginia fraternity parties. Besides all this activity on other “campi,” Salem had a great deal of activity here last weekend. May Day was again the hit of the year. Strong Is Honored Colonel Corrin L. Strong, mem ber of Salem’s Board of Trustees, was given a testimonial dinner on Thursday, May 7, at Hotel Statler in Washington, D. C. Dr. Dale H. Gramley represented Salem and spoke briefly in tribute to Colonel Strong. The dinner was given by friends and admirers of i Colonel Strong. TWIN CITV loftY aiANm col Phone Dial 7196 Winston-Salgm, N.
