December 4, 1953 THE SALEMITE Page Five Donald Britt Britt Enjoys Fishing, Records, Photography, And Salemites By Louise Barron Dressed in a drak gray flannel coat and light gray flannel pants with a matching sweater, Mr. Don ald E. Britt was sitting at his desk looking as. if he had always been on his job at Salem. Mr. Britt is Dr. Gramley’s as sistant and has been on the campus since Nov. 16. If you’ve never met him. you’ve probably wondered who the young man with a crew cut seen at all the latest college functions could be. He and his family plan to move into their newly acquired house tomorrow. His wife, the former Suzanne Bagnal, and four children: two boys, aged three and five, and twins, a boy and girl, age seven, have just recently joined him in Winston-Salem. Their new house is at 903 Jersey Avenue and has five bedrooms which Mr. Britt as sured me would just hold his family. Since his arrival, Mr. Britt has spent a lot of his time becoming orientated to the Salem campus. He has attended the faculty re citals, the Pierrette production of “Dark of the Moon,” Clewell’s open house and many other such func tions. At each appearance, stu dents have always commented on his pleasing speaking voice and his good-looking clothes. Mr. Britt classifies his position as being somewhere between Mr. Yarborough’s and Dr. Gramley’s and says his duties consist of every thing from buying lamps to pre siding at chapel. “When I came,” he said, “Dr. Gramley gave me the idea there would be infinite variety. I have found my job varied and very pleasant with never a dull moment. No two days have been alike.” I Mr. Britt has several hobbies and many interests. In the years between his graduation from Caro lina and his arrival at Salem, he has worked for radio stations, newspapers, Pineland College and was among the organizers of the Civic Music program and Little Theater in Clinton. He is interested in photography, enjoys reading all types of litera ture and has a record collection consisting of all kinds of music. He is particularly a Stan Kenton fan. ■y During his interview, Mr. Britt told me a little about the acquisi tion of his record collection. It seems his wife had a part of this collection when they married. He laughingly said, “I married her for her records.” Mr. Britt also enjoys good food. He and his wife have a lot of fun seeking out new and unusual rest aurants while visiting new cities. Another pastime he enjoys is fishing—especially surf-casting. He and his family spend some time both in winter and summer at Mrs. Britt’s parents’ beach house at Garden City, S. C. Mr. Britt’s big smile, long stride and gray flannels are already be coming familiar on the Salem cam pus. He is a welcomed addition to our Salem family and is fast be coming indispensable.
