I thought they were snow flakes—I’ll be glad when Saturday %ight gets here.” I This is the conversation which 'has floated from the basement 6f (Bitting for the past week as the jl. R. S. members worked on the decorations for the Christmas dance. Plans for the dance began a few eeks ago when Jean Shope, I. R. |S. president, appointed the various .■committees. Sara Johnson and *Anne Moye are in charge of re freshments; Helen Carol Watkins ■■and Martha Thornburg, dance bids; jElla Ann Lee and Lu Long Ogburn, publicity; Ann Campbell, cards; .Pat r^rsh and Mary Anne Raines, figure formation and flowers; Betty Jean Cash and Sara Sue Tisdale, invitations; and Nancy Blum and IBonnie Bondurant, properties, i All the I. R. S. members have Tworked very hard and they all .agree that this Christmas dance will be “the best yet.” I Two changes from the usual |dance procedure have been effected to make the dance more enjoyable. B When Salemites first enter the |gym, they will notice that there is ■no receiving line. The I. R. S. felt that the receiving line was a tire- ■some task both for the people in it and for the pepole going through >t. The chaperones who are Dr. and Mrs. Gramley, Mr. and Mrs. iBritt, Mrs. Heidbreder, and Miss Sullivan, will be dancing and ming ling with the crowds just as the Salemites. ■ The decorations for the dance are built around the theme of “Blue Christmas.” The whole gym will be covered with dark blue paper streamers and dangling silver stars (or snowflakes). Angel hair clouds will float at strategic places. In one corner of the gym a Christmas tree sprayed with silver paint will be highlighted by blue spotlights. Jean declares, “The atmosphere is going to be very ‘outdoorsey’, very dark and very romantic!” Immediately before intermission the members of the I. R. S. will be presented in the figure. The At kins High School orchestra will play the song “Blue Christmas” as the girls walk through a silver cre scent moon to join their dates and form a figure in the shape of a crescent moon. Each I. R. S. mem ber will carry a nosegay of white carnations and blue chrysanthe mums tied with silver streamers. Jean Shope will be the first to be presented with her date, Stan Kennett. Other members and their escorts are Ann Bondurant with Miledge Newton, Mary Anne Raines with Dick Roper, Helen Carol Watkins with Cecil Milton, Ann Moye with Ben Mayo, Nancy Blum with Charles Davis, Sarah Sue Tisdale with Vernon Ferrell, Pat Marsh with Bob Hall, Ella Ann Lee with Henry Stevenson, Sally Hudson wifh Burton Rathert, Sara Johnson with Pender Durham, Ann Miles with Lloyd Skinner, Betty Jean Cash with Doug Car ter, Lu Long Ogburn with Tommy Medlin, and Ann Campbell with Hugh Gramley. After the figure, intermission will take place. Since the club dining room is no longer big enough to hold everyone during intermission, another change has been effected. Refreshments will be served in the dining room.. Mrs. Heidbreder and Miss Sullivan will serve cookies and punch. In case the refreshments at in termission do not fill the Salemites and their dates, the junior class is sponsoring an Open House in the Day Students’ Center between 12 o’clock and 1 o’clock. They will have ham biscuits, pickles, cheese spreads, potato chips, and coffee. Each couple may have all they wish for 1.00. At one, each Salemite will bid her date goodnight and then go to the smokers for that last cigarette. Some girls will talk about the “hor rible creep that Ann got me a blind date with.” Others will go into ecstasies over “that handsome boy from Duke.” The I. R. S. hopes that you will have pleasant recollections and that the Christ mas dance will be anything but “blue” for you!
