M. C A. of Davidson College has announced plans for the an nual Salem-Davidson Day. In a letter to the Salem Y. W. C. A., they have invited fifty Salem fresh men to visit the Davidson campus on January 9. The plans include a tea dance in the afternoon to be held in the gymnasium, supper, and the basket ball game between Davidson and the Citadel. The basketball game, which will conclude the day’s events, is expected to be over about 10 or 10:30 p.m. Sheets will be placed in Qewell dormitory and freshmen who are interested in going are asked to sign up by noon on Monday, Dec. 14. The Y urges those girls who would like to go to sign their names on the sheet as early as possible since Davidson has in- Winston-Salem. No date has been set for the wedding. Betty Lou is a transfer from Woman’s College in Greensboro. She is a Day Student. vited only fifty girls. Freshmen who do sign their names are asked to give their height also, so that blind dates can be arranged suitably. Bus transportation will be ar ranged by the Y. W. C. A. for a small fee from each girl going. The bus will be met at Davidson by the blind dates. Men Students Plan Vacation By Bill Long Over the holidays we men stu- dents will desert our refuge in the catacombs under Main Hall to pur sue studies of a lighter nature. I expect to spend Christmas roaming over hill and hollow with a gun and dog, hunting, sitting home by the fire watching brothers and sisters come and go, and drop ping now and then some revelerrt (or irrevelent) comment on their various activities and remarks. This is a pleasant occupation and I re commend it to my readers highly. Russell Chambers has announced that he’s going bear hunting over the holidays. However, I rather feel that this is a thing more to be talked about than seriously contem plated. Actually, Russell has a wife and baby (cute, 6 yrs.) as well as a growing business enterprise (Am bassador Hotel) to nurse. On this count his plight is not dissimiliar to that of Arvel Dyer who gets only a part-time vacation. Arvel’s fifteen hours at Salem are a sort of hobby. He spends his spare time keeping the books for the Edman Electric Co. However, Arvel is looking for ward to a vacation prior to that when he completes his student teaching. He is expecting to put in a lot of time in his favorite chair at home, feet elevated, sur rounded wth cigars and coffee and some books. Incidently, Arvpl’s idea of a good book is “The Rise and Fall of Rome” in nineteen volumes. Now, as for the others, Bedford Taylor and Tommy Brown, who can say? Taylor is fond of roam ing the woods looking for mosses and other such gadgets with which to impress Mr. Campbell. So who knows, he might return to school with a truck load of amoebae for Mr. Campbell’s beginning biology class. If it snows, Bedford is plan ning to hike up Grandfather Moun tain one day—nice, huh ? Tommy, our musician, class of ’55, is given to spending long per iods of time battering the keys. He might even find time to write a piece or two for Mr. Heidmann’s next recital.
