Pfe|ge^Eig^ THE SAL E MITE December I I Faculty And Students Plan Long Trips, Boat Riding, Duck Hunting, Relaxing, Golfing By Francine Pittt Men, parties, dances, weddings and long trips will be the main attractions for the holiday season —men bfeing the main attraction for the students and long trips for the faculty. The most-unusual thing about a Salem student’s or faculty’s Christ mas Holiday is the fact that they all claim it will be very usual. Mrs. Gramley laments that she’ll just spend Christmas in an ordinary way. The only thing unusual she plans to do is to finish a pair of argyie socks for one of her men. Mr. Campbell is planning to “knock around Winston-Salem for a • couple of days and go duck hunting;'-’ Then he guesses he’ll go on up to New York and on to Maine whHe he will putter around, burn a few limbs (tree l^bs), and do Other otjtside -work; Jane Little (from Albemarle) agrees with Mr. Campbell that the way to enjoy a holiday is to be outdoors. She says she is going motorbbat riding up the St. Law- erefice River to meet Santa Claus and escort him to the boat house. Ann Mixon is going to her home in Summit, New Jersey. She says she is going into New York and visit the zoo, to date any Big Spenders from the East she can find, and to continue her search for. a man. ■ Dr. Hixon is planning to remain here at Salem for a few days, then go down to her home in Georgia (“Jawjah”). Mrs. Heidbreder is planning to fly first to Washington, D. C., to spend Christmas with her daughter, then fly out to Oklahoma City where she will spend the re mainder of her time with her father. Dr. Welch and Miss Simpson have been preparing for their holi day activities since back in the summer months. They have been writing for tickets for some of the select shows in New York, and so far they have reservations for ten of the top shows. Mrs. Muller says that if she can talk Miss Diggers into lending her the money, the two of them are going down to Miami Beach and relax in the sun. Miss Byrd, too, hopes to go to Florida; ho-wever, she hasn’t made any definite plans. Dr. Gramley plans to continue liis practice of playing golf on Christmas Day. He has done this for the last two Christmases and plans to do it again this Christmas so he can continue to brag to his yankee friends that he "played golf on Christmas Day!’’ Many girls are planning to at tend or be in weddings. Lu Wil liams is going to attend a wedding as a bride. Lu Long is going to be an attendent in four different weddings. Polly Larkins is going to be the maid of honor in the wedding of her sister, Emma Sue. Elaine Williams Avera, for some reason, isn’t interested in weddings. She’s just interested in keeping house, combined with the composi tion of a term paper. She says that “makes a delightful combina tion.’’ Lynn. Wilson says Elaine hasn’t got anything on her. She’s doing something she’s never done before, too. She is going to give a present to a boy for the first time in her life. She says she’s finally found one that’s worth it. Carolyn Wat- lingtbn adds that it’s the first time she’s never had a boy friend to give a present to. Is she bragging or complaining? Helle Faulk is planning an excit ing trip, by bus, first to New York where she plans to spend a few days with some friends of hers. Then she is going on up to Canada to visit some more friends, but primarily to go skiing. The remainder of us Salemites, who have no weddings or parties prearranged, are hoping that some unforseen excitement will happen along. If not, when all these So cialites start complaining about being so tired from so much Christ mas celebration, we’ll do just like little Lu Lu and laugh and laugh and laugh.
