Wardrobes, Boy Friends, Snores And Goldfish Keep Roommates Together For Four Years By Sally Reiland Roommates. There are some who stick together all the way and some wlio don’t. Of those who do, there are six good examples in the Senior class. i For Alison Britt and Carol Glaser; Lu Long Ogburn and Sara Sue Tisdale—this is their fourth year of rooming together. But for the Shopes, who are an exception to every case, it is the 2lst year. Jean and Joan met each other at a very early age—several minutes old, to be exact. They quickly abandoned the idea of separation when coming to college on the grounds that: (1) they were “scared to death,” and (2) rooming apart wou 1 d completely disrupt their joint wardrobe and force them into sew ing name tapes on their unmention ables. The twins depend on each other for everything from trans porting laundry to “standing in” for each other—but depend on their Suite mate (who, incidently, still doesn’t know which one she is waking up) to arouse them in the morning. Lu Long and Sara Sue met each other taking entrance exams for Salem, but didn’t know then that they would room together. Sara Sue says that she has made one real blunder in their friendship. That was in trying to get too well acquainted with Tommy Medlin, to whom Lu Long is now engaged, and whom she thought was Lu’s most attractive brother some four years ago. Lu says that there has never been a dull moment—what with Sara Sue’s four-year array of vari ous boyfriends. Although each of the girls admitted that “I do all the dirty work in the room—but please don’t put that in print,” they do agree on one point—their 10:30 p.m. bed-time. The combination, they say, of Lu’s musical inspira- The TODDLE HOUSE 878 W. In consideration of the Alison- Carol duo, there is one predominant element—Alison snores. “She al ways has snored and she always will snore,” according to Carol. Alison remembers how upset Carol was when she heard that she was rooming with someone from Mur freesboro, being sure that whatever it was, it would be a country hick— especially since Alison had written that her eyes had a tendancy to cross and that her hair was kinky. Once they met, however, they found each other quite tolerable—snores and kinks included—for they lost no time in discovering that Carol had short boyfriends and Alison had tall ones, and that they could swap that for whiph they had no use. It seems that their one point of disagreement over the years has been about the amount of fresh air necessary for sleeping. In the meantime, they agree on a policy that when one of Alison’s goldfishes dies, Carol must dispose of the body in a deluge of tears. So it goes with the four-year roommates !
