Page Four THE SALEMITE March 5 Editor’s Note: This cartoon is a reprint of one drawn several years ago for the Salemite by a student. A. A. Mews Salem’s versatile faculty displayed their athletic skill Wednesday night as they took an easy 22-12 victory ' from the newly-elected varsity. The faculty got an early lead be hind the steady shooting of “Hook” Collett, “Fakium” Peterson, “Twin kle-toes” Horne and “Social” Bar rier and showed that the “old grey mare” can still kick. At the end of the first quarter, the crowd became aware of the secret of the faculty’s abundant energy when the team managers— “All-the-way-w i t h-the-F. T. A.” Welch and “Muzzy” Covington car ried water pails (filled with beer?) onto the court. In a desperate effort to win, the students called in a fresh team straight from the House of I. R. S. But the faculty’s steady defense composed of “Cookie” Hodges, '‘Electro-Magnet” Campbell and ‘“Wild Bill” Spencer easily put an end to the rally as the last seconds ticked away and the referee was revived and carried off the court. For the victors, Collett scored 12 points and Peterson managedS. A. A. president “Be-Be” McGloug- hon (who played guard and forward at the same time) led the losers with 4. Playing for the varsity were “Merry” Anne Merritt, Boop Mc- Glaughon, “Country” Currin, “Fan ny” Pitts, “Slinky” Millican, “Scar- face” Caldwell, ‘Soaky” Crenshaw, “Maddy” Allen, “Jo-Jo” Smither- man and “Lil’ Annie” Miles. :4c j(c * * * Salem took top honors at W.
