Page Six December 3, 1954 Here’s The By Sisiie Allen and Jo Smitherman This year’s vollyball tournament has been perfect in all respects except one—attendance. The games have been close, for the most part —at least, until the last half. In the opening game, the seniors beat the freshmen by a score of 45-30. In the second game the sophomores, trailing one point at half-time, made a spectacular come back and beat the juniors, 44-30. The sophomores continued to win on Wednesday when they beat the freshmen 44-30. Next Monday at 5:00 between the seniors and sophomores; the concluding game will take place on Tuesday after noon between the defending champion juniors and the fresh- Let’s pull up the attendance for these games. They decide which class will emerge champion. The NCAFCW (North Carolina Athletic Federation of College Women) will meet at Meredith College on Saturday, -Dec. 11. At least thirty schools will be repre sented. Jo Smitherman and Don ald Caldwell, representing Salem, will lead a discussion on the strong and weak points of the various systems of awards. The Salem delegation is not limited, by any means, to members of the A. A. Council. So any of you who would like to attend, please see Miss Collett. (We leave at 8:30 on Saturday morning and will be back in ample time to at tend the Christmas Dance.) * * * Mr. Gardner Gidley, who spoke in chapel on last Tuesday, has offered special rates to groups of Salem students interested in horse back riding anytime before the official riding season opens next spring. The A. A. is contemplating the sponsorship of such expeditions if a sufficient number of Salemites show interest in the project. If you like to ride- and would be interested in going to Tanglewood Park for a couple of hours of riding with a group, talk it up, get your friends interested, and tell some A. A. Council member about it. ♦ * * The first issue of a State NCA FCW newsletter, entitled “Shirts ’n Shorts,” has been prepared for distribution to all schools with women’s athletic associations in the state. The A. A. here at Salem designated your columnists to edit this paper, for which Salem was elected at the conference last spring to prepare. “Shirts ’n Shorts” contains news from eight schools, including Salem. They are: Meredith, Carolina, Wo man’s College, East Carolina, Wake Forest, and Western Carolina. What a Wonderful Nite Girl Wins Honor Loretta Murray, daughter of Mrs. M. C.
