Page Four THE S A L E M1T E November 11 M A. A. Council Chooses Two Freshmen Martha McClure and Derry Jo Hardage were elected as freshmen representatives to the A. A. Coun cil at a meeting held Wednesday night in the Stee Gee office. They were selected from a group of eight freshmen who chose the A. A. as their main extra-curri cular interest. Martha is from Graham, N. C. She came to Salem after a summer in Europe determined not to live in the shadow of her senior sister, Mary E. Martha has already dis pelled this fear by making the varsity hockey team. She has been too busy going out for all the athletic functions to give thought to a major, but she says, “that will come later.” From Jacksonville, Fla., Derry Jo is also a strong A. A. parti cipant. Though not on the varsity, she plays hockey and volleyball. A home economics major, Derry Jo has not decided whether she will finish school here or go back to Florida. She was “thrilled” with her election and hopes she will do justice to her class as one of its representatives. Salem Beats Gui)ford In the hockey game played last Friday, Nov. 4, at 2:30 on the athletic field, Salem beat Guilford by a score of 2-1. Ann Miles and Sissie Allen each made a goal for the winners, and Carol Blackwell scored Guilford’s lone point. The next game has been sche duled with Catawba in Salisbury for Saturday, Nov. 19. News Vespers will be held at 6:30 Sun day night, Nov. 13, in Little Chapel. The Canterbury Club has asked the Rev. Mr. Thomas Fraser, rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, to be the guest speaker. His topic for the service will be “Science and Religion”.
