Currently at work on a revision of a history of the South to the present, Dr. Smiley, assistant professor of history at Wake Forest, presented the pro posed outline of the last six chap ters (covering events from 1878 to the present). The group questioned and dis cussed Dr. Smiley’s suggestion that- the theme of Southern history is an economic one. Carol Campbell, president of the campus chapter of the national history fraternity, presided over a short business meeting preceding Dr. Smiley’s program. Fraternity members present were Dr. Philip Africa, adviser, M, Fos ter Farley, Dr. Ivy Hixson, Mrs. Amy Heidbreder, Becky Hinkle, Martha Jarvis, Jo Smitherman, Celia Smith, and Dr. Lucy Austin.
