This is our third.” “Why?” “Well, nobody else could take all my kidding. And we think the same way. She’s a mama to me. Gets me to class on time, meals ’ on time, and knows my moods,” i Martha McClure answers. | This is why these two juniors have stayed together since they | 1 entered Salem. And the others ? j I When questioned about her room- j mate of three years, Marcille Van Liere, Marian Neamand’s eyes lit up as she answered, “She’s so sweet. She never complains!” Marian says “we always take room ing together for granted,” and “we have the same tastes in room decoration.” Juniors Nancy Willis, a history major, and Beth Taylor, a math major, do not have the same close friends, nor outside interests, nor much in common. Nancy says, “We just get along so well to gether.’ Jean Smitherman and Martha Goddard live in two different V' nrlds during the day. Jean writes and keeps up with four English courses while Martha practices piano, orchestration, and voice. “At night,” says Martha, “we’ve got nlenty to talk about. And we’re both in the play this fall. We’ve got the same circle of friends, too. Jane is an art major and Jeane is a French major. However, Mary Archer Blount and Betsy Smith are both chemis try majors and the only ones in the senior class. “But that’s not why we stayed together,” laughs Marj' Archer. “The two messiest seniors just decided to stick to gether,” added Betsy. Art Mews Mr. Edwin Shewmake, head of the Art Department announces a new exhibit by Kenneth Ness which is on display in Music Hall. Mr. Ness is the acting head of the Art department at the Univer- I sity of North Carolina. Most of ! his previous training was at the , ,\rl Institute in Chicago. I The paintings are mostly work- [ ing in abstract hut there is still a i surrealistic tendency about them. One of the best, perhaps, is “Small Boy with Bubble Gulp, Kite and Yo-Yo”. The painting seems to he entirely abstract but upon close examination, the viewer can detect the clever way^ in which the artist has combined his subject.
