March 7, 1938 THE SALEMIT Page Five Around The Square By Erwin Robins Last weekend, Marg Taylor, Grace and Nancy Walker, and Mary Oettinger went to Griff Wootens’ wedding in Kinston, C. Julie O’Neil went to Caro lina for the Mardi Gras, and Susan McCotter also went to Carolina— but just to look the situation over. Katie Kochtisky went to Duke to the Engineer’s Ball, and Eliza beth Smith and Lucinda Oliver were at State. I might add that three demons of Strong Dorm sent pictures of Mary Thealer and Mary Frances Patrick in their pajamas to the boys they’re pinned to. I could say that Elizabeth Smith, Joy Perkins, and Eve Van Fleck were the cohorts in this delvish escapade, but I don’t think that Faculty Play Proceeds 0o To Y.W.C.A. Barbara Rowland, president of the YWCA has announced that the proceeds from the faculty play will go to the World University Service. (The faculty agreed to leave the destination of the money up to the decision of the Y.) The council voted last Monday night to send 25% of the money to WUS each year for the next four years. Barbara told students during chapel that the money paid for tickets will be “drops in the bucket of a vast, international program which came into being as a result of World War II.” Reaching to every area of the globe, WUS claims accomplishment such as: educational conferences and seminars, educational equip ment, emergency assistance, equip ment and aid to student health services, food and clothing distri bution, loan funds and refugee scholarships, student health centers, and student housing. Overseas aid, toward which ap proximately 80% of the WUS finances is directed, naturally dif fers from American aid. There are bombed and war-torn areas to re construct, unsanitary conditions to repair, and acute health problems to provide clinics and medicine. At home, WUS spends the re maining portion of its income in four ways, and in this order: 1) educational fund raising, 2) edu cation, 3) administration and, 4) DP student loan fund and DP scholarship program. they want this information to leak out. Skippy Stone and Joan Currie really made the news by going for the past week-end to West Point. (And Norwood Dennis’ boyfriend is coming next week-end to visit her from West Point!) Frankie Cunningham joined the honored ranks last week-end. She went to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to visit Hal Cole of Winston-Salem and came back with a pin I Of course everybody is interested in the atmosphere surrounding the faculty play. Some of the leading stars and starlettes are Mr. Pfiine, Dr. Gramley, Mrs. Heidbreder, and Dr. Hixson. Dr. Byers sings and dances. Miss Gentry and Mr. Paine do a dance (with Miss Gen try doing most of the dancing), and Dr. Welch sings in a trio. There will be a men’s chorus. There is a saxophone solo by, a faculty member who prefers to re main anonymous. The nurses at the infirmary also have a part. Two of the biggest stars will be Superman and Mighty Mouse. Guess who they are I Almost all the faculty and a lot of the staff members will be included. There will also be some big surprises be tween scenes. The play will be divided into two acts—the first half is directed by Dr. Welch, and the second half by Mr. Peterson. The script is by Mr. Paine, Dr. Byers, Dr. Africa, Mr. Meigs, and Dr. Welch. The choreography is by Miss Gentry. The lyrics are written by Mr. Meigs, Dr. Byers, Dr. Welch, and Miss Marsh. The lighting is hand led by Judy Graham Davis and her husband, Don. Mr. Yarborough and Mrs. William White, (Dr. White’s wife) are in charge of scenery, and Mr. Don Britt is the general chairman. The Salemite is to be passed out and so is the faculty by the end of the first act! —Erwin Robins Five Drags... (Continued from page 6) quickly. At 1845 (6:45 civilian time), we escorted our dates back to Bancroft Hall and bade the proper adieus. Seven Salemites looked on as seven midshipmen walked away and became lost in a maze of Navy blue and Vhlte.
