Elect New officers For 1958-1959

Two music organizations elected
their officers last week for 1958-59.
The Choral Ensemble elected Mar
garet Fletcher—President, Evelyn

elected Marilyn Shull — President,
Evelyn Vincent — Vice President,
Margaret Fletcher—Secretary, and
Dorothy Frick—Treasurer. Class
representatives will be Senior Er

Laney, and Sophomore — FTarnet
Tomlinson. The Freshman repre
sentative will be chosen in the fall

On Tuesday, April 15, the Inter
national Relations Club held a
meeting in the Student Union for
the purpose of electing officers for
the coming year. Before the elec
tion, out-going president Judith
Anderson read the duties of the
officers, and made suggestions for
next year’s projects.
The new officers are Anne Cat-
lette, president; Susan Foard, vice-
president ; and Sallie Hickok, sec
retary-treasurer. Anne is from
Raleigh, North Carolina, and has
lived in Caripito, Venezuela. She
says that she first became inter
ested in international relations
while she was in high school. The
new president is a sophomore and
is planning to major in history.
Vice president Susan is also a
sophomore. She has been elected
Managing Editor of the Salemite
for next year, and is interested in
a variety of things. She was also
chosen as the alternate Sophomore
for the Strong Scholarship.
Sallie, next year’s secretary-
treasurer, has shown a great in
terest in organizations on campus
this year. She has worked on the
Salemite staff, and was instru
mental in the organization of the
Salem Young Democrats, of which
she is Vice President. Sallie has
also been interested in the Humani
ties Club. She is undecided .as to
her major, but is thinking about
English or history.

The Joham Comenius Chapter of
the Department of Future Teachers
of the Student National Education
Rssociation met April 16 and
elected the following officers for
the incoming year: President, Shir
ley Hardy; Vice-President, Jane
Rostan; Scrapbook Keeper, Mar
garet Taylor; and Reporter, Mari
lyn Shull.
Class Officers
The Senior Class elected the re
mainder of their officers last week.
Shirley Hardy was elected Vice-
President; Noel Vossler was chosen
Secretary, and Clayton Jones,
Treasurer.
In a Sophomore class meeting
Wednesday afternoon, these rising
Freshmen were elected: Vice-Pre
sident, Mary Oettinger; Secretary,
Lucy Ann Phillips; and Treasurer,
Jackie Reeves.
Methodists
The Wesley Foundation recently
elected these new officers for the
term 1958-59; president, Anne
Landauer; secretary, Jackie Reeves;
and treasurer, Sara Lou Richard
son. The vice-president and re
porter will be elected next fall
from the incoming freshman class.

Shan Helms is directing a one-
Dansalems, the modern dance
club, was organized at the begin
ning of this year. The officers for
the second year of its founding
were elected last Monday. The
new slate includes Sarah Ann Price,
president; Katie Teague, vice-pre
sident; treasurer, Caro Calhoun,
Sarah Lou Richardson, publicity
chairman; and Harriette Dwelle,
W. R. A. representative. This week
club members will vote to elect the
secretary.
The president explained that the
purpose of this group was to de
velop an appreciation of modern
dance and creative ability.
This group plans to give a re
cital in the spring next year. They
are also working toward getting a
modern dancer to give a perform
ance and to conduct a master dance
class. The Dansalems have taken
steps to form an Orkasis Organi
zation which is an honorary dance
group. Dansalems will continue to-
perform for local groups next
school year, and will have for the
first time a representative to the
W. R. A.
This year the Dansalems gave
programs for the Fine Arts Coun
cil of Win s t, o n-Salem. They
danced for the Religion In Life
Week at High Point College; they
danced at Winston-Salem Teachers
College and also participated in the
Arts Festival in Greensboro. There,
representatives of the club pre
sented a dance for criticism and
attended a master dance class
taught by Merce Cunningham.
They have given a program at
WSJS-TV and also one in chapel.
The Pierrettes plan next year to
add a wardrobe mistress. They
are interested in getting more peo
ple to work actively in Pierrettes
and their workshops to give an in
sight into the work of community
theater productions.
Martha Goddard, president, says
that Pierrettes provide an oppor
tunity for students to work actively
in drama and to become acquainted
with backstage activities. It tries
to stimulate an interest in those
who have had no previous exper
ience in drama and to help them
to realize the planning required
in producing plays.

Workshop May 13 and 15
On the evenings of May 13 and
15 the theatre workshops will pre
sent a variety of plays in Old
Chapel. There will be no admis
sion charged. In the workshops
the plays are directed by the stu
dents in Mrs. Stevens second se
mester theatre class. Casting and
directing the plays themselves, the
students get experience in working
with actors. They are still casting
for people to play some of the
parts.
