Friday, March 20, 1959 THE SALEMITE Page Three ’The Well-Rounded College Student Will Highlight IRS Week, April 6-9 Would you like to go to a fashion show, hear a hypothetical last lec ture by Dr. Helms, see a “History of Man” by Miss Battle’s oral in terpretation class, and hear Mrs. Hoffsinger’s views on the “Things that Endure”? You will be able to do all these things during IRS week, April 6-9. The theme of IRS week will be “The Well-Rounded College Stu dent”. The week will be divided to emphasize her social, academic, religious, and cultural development. On Monday in Chapel Montaldo’s will give a fashion show, the May Court girls will be modeling. On Tuesday night Dr. Helm will speak in the Day Student Center. His topic will be “The Last Lecture I Kendrick, McLeod, And Butler Assume Positions Two rising seniors and one junior were voted into major offices for next year. Nita Kendrick was elected to the post of President of Woman’s Recreation Associa- the in the Woman’s Recreation Asso ciation, being vice-president this year and a member of the council her sophomore year. Her major is FInglish and her minor is primary education. She is also vice-president of Carolyn McLeod A two-time member of the IRS Council who has never received a call down for an unmade bed and who does not enjoy the college girl’s favorite sport, bridge, has just been elected to head Salem’s social standards organization, I Represent Salem. Evelyn Vincent, a piano major studying under Clemens Sandresky, has been a choreographer for May Day productions (she had a leading role—Billy Bigelow—in last year’s pageant), a treasurer of the YWCA, vice-president of the Music Club, and a member of the Choral En semble and the Chapel Trio. In a soft-spoken Virginia (Dan ville) accent, Evelyn related her plans for after-graduation: “I think I’d like to travel with a touring choir, preferably Robert Shaw, for a year. Then, with the adventure- bug out of my system, I might set tle down to teaching music.” Although she has only been elected three days, Evelyn already had some definite ideas about what she would like to see IRS become next year. “I’d like to see IRS function as a positive influence on campus social life, and not be viewed so much as a dispenser of call downs for social violations,” she said. In regard to the proposed changes in the type of Salem dance, Evelyn expressed interest in the student reaction and added that she favored a “little less formal dance, but not to the level of a jazz combo 'party.” A new idea in smoking!
