Page Four Paine Teaches In Rain', Cold Freezes Spring Fever By Sue Randak Spring fever died out with the streak of cold weather that hit our empty campus this past weekend. A good percentage of Salemites at tended various functions at colleges all over the state. The events in cluded Germans, Easters, Old South, and The White Rose Ball. A note to Lidie and her skinned nogan—too many athletes spoil the Heidbreder 0ives Ideas (Continued from page three) double check against possible office mistakes. Mrs. Heidbreder also offered four ways that Salem dances could be improved. These were suggestions made to her by some freshmen. 1. There could be some way to exchange dances so that the whole evening would not be spent dancing with the same boy. This would enable a girl to meet many boys at the dance. A program dance would be one way to exchange dan ces. 2. There are many girls who do not attend the dances because they do not know anyone to date. An attempt to get dates . for these girls would improve the dances a great deal. 3. The dances could also be im proved by inviting stags. The IRS hostesses for the dances would be responsible to invite these stags. 4. Perhaps a Grand March could be substituted for the tradi tional figure. The figure has become meaningless and, per haps a change would increase interest. The main criticism which Dean Heidbreder had to make of Salem dances is that there is a lack of imagination in planning the pro cedure of the dance. This is one time when Salem should not rely entirely on tradition, but new ideas should be considered to improve our dances. broth. With new presidents selecting their councils, committee chairmen, and staff members it has become api>arent that the point system al ready needs some revisions. Speci fically seasonal jobs. There just don’t seem to be enough interested people to go around. Were you there when Mr. Paine conducted his sophomore lit. class around the lily pond in the pouring rain? Many thanks to Harriet Thomlinson for holding the um brella over our dear teacher’s head. “The, Miser” presented by our own Pierrettes Wednesday and Thursday nights was excellent.
