The ones that took Wurtele Offers Faculty Recital Miss Nancy Wurtele will give a ,iano recital Monday, October 8, at :30 p.m, in Memorial Hall. Her jrogram includes Toccata in D diajor by Bach, Sonata in E Flat ■lajor, Op. No. 3 by Beethoven, '.ano Pieces, Op. 119 by Brahams, .'hree Bulgarian Dances from the i.krokosmos, B., VI by Bartok, nd Ballade in G Minor, Op. 23 by Jiopin. ' Born and reared in Los Angeles, California, Miss Wurtele received her Bachelor of Music degree in piano from the University of South ern California and her Master of Science degree from Julliard where she studied under Rosina Lhevinne. She was awarded a Fullbright Travel Scholarship and an Italian government grant to Rome where she studied at the Conservatory of Saint Cecelia. This is her first year of teaching after returning from Rome Founders’ Day held on Thursday, October 4, commemorated the 191st year in the history of Salem Col lege. Afternoon activities began after Reverend Clark Thompson spoke in assembly on Salem’s Moravian background. -Mter lunch each class dressed in their class colors and c o m |) e t e.d in games and races. Cheerleaders provided the necessary leadership for the events, while trash cans, student voices, and home-made drums offered boister ous cheer. Evening activities were held in Old Chapel with each class present ing a short skit based on children’s stories. Freshmen students pre sented Peter Pan while the sopho more class imitated Winnie The Pooh.. Juniors characterized Cin derella after which the seniors per formed The Wise Old Owl. Class songs written especially for the occasion were sung following the skits, after which the judges announced the winning events in the day’s activities. Antique Red—10.99 m the Phi Chi Medical Fraternity were Diane Schull, Ethel Perry, Marsha Forrester, Robbin Causey, Susie Rablen, Ellen Heflin, Myrtie Moon Bilbro, Penny Prusa, G. G. Sapp, Dougie Heinrich, and Jane Hedgpeth. Numerous students went to the parties given by Wake Forest’ fraternities. Barbara White, Allison Pollard, Kit King, Claudia Crawford, and October 5, 1962 Jan Crawley went to State for the Clemson game. The freshmen are all raving about the wonderful time they had at the dance given by the sophomores. They especially enjoyed the spot light dances. The juniors in South also entertained their “little sisters’’ with an informal get-together in che TV room while Strong gave a pizza party for their “little sisters.” THE VILLAGE YARN SHOP is now open in the old Bakery building over Dan’s An tique Shop.
