scores serve as an example of the
tough competition, 6-4, 1-8, 8-6. The

I think is poor and antiquated.
I I realize that a change was made
his year in the scheduling of exams
to prevent a student from having
^hree exams in a row, but this is
not enough. Many of my friends
I nd I myself have our two worst
xams on the same day. Another
scheduling fault seems to be that
jnany people have all their exams
bunched together either in the first
four or the last four days of exams,
t ith the rest of the time free. It
not worth it to me to finish exams
^arly if I am going to do poorly
on all of them, nor to have four
days in which to agonize over how
(fauch time should be spent study-
ftig for each exam.
■ The biggest fault of the exam
vstem as Salem is that any exam
lhange must be cleared through the
office. This is supremely unfair. I
|naintain that the matter of when
an exam is taken is solely between
file student and her professor, and
IS not the business of the admini
stration. Ideally, the student should
l^c able to arrange her own exam
Schedule so that she may use her
time to the best advantage.
« I hope that the student body will
Jead and consider this proposal
Carefully, and will support a peti
tion to this effect which I intend
to write.
Sincerely,
Barbara Homey

The Student Service Council has
been established as a non-budget
organization of Student Govern
ment to continue several services
of the recently dissolved NSA.
It will also continue evaluaton
of the college curriculum on a
yearly basis, possibly getting ideas
for improvement through sending
questionnaires to other campuses.
In addition, it will conduct polls on

clearly to read the Joan Walsh An-
glund selection the girls had given
her.
Mrs. Bobbitt will be moving to
Texas this summer to live with her
son and his family in Richardson.
The Student Service Council will
also serve as a coordinating agency
between Salem and other colleges.
One aim is to obtain handbooks of
other colleges much like Salem and
for easy access to their policies
and dorm and social rules.
This service would be especially
helpful in organizing accurate stu-
used books of other colleges in the
dent petitions for policy or rule
changes. Another goal is to ex
pand the Book Exchange to include
area.
The Council will consist of
student members from each class
and a day student. The chair
man for the committee will be a
junior. The chairman for next
year’s Student Service Council is
Louise Sherrill.
