REFLECTIONS
(Quotes from a conversation with Dr. John Chandler)
“We’re 200 years old, but we’re 200
years young too.”
“We need to change some things in the
curriculum, but not just for the sake of
change. We need to ask why we are
doing what we are doing and change
anything that may not be worthwhile.”
“In the admissions office we need to
cover larger geographic areas. We’ve
added more people to do that. We’re
also asking for help from the students,
faculty and alumnae to reach people.
The alumnae have lots of ideas and
energy to give us. 1 think sometimes
they may think all we want is their
money. We do appreciate their finan
cial support, but we need their help in
many other ways also. Our goal is to
have 200 people in the next freshman
class.”
“My favorite color is blue,
know why.”
I don’t
“When I find some spare time I go
down to the driving range and hit some
balls. The balls go in all directions—
I’m not very good at it—but I enjov it.
I also spend a lot of time with my child
ren at night when they don’t have too
much homework.”
“I’m a Leo, but I won’t tell you when
my birthday is. I want you to do a
little detective work on your own.’

‘No, the grey cat around campus isn’t
mine. I think he is K. C. from Gover
nor’s School. I’m allergic to cats, but
I like them . . . We keep our dog in the
house most of the time because he likes
to roam too much. He made an un
authorized visit to Mayberry’s this
week. Also he has a fierce bark and
scares people who aren’t used to him.
He’s really a very gentle dog. Every
night he barks at Mr. Terrell. Mr. Ter
rell is very nice about it.’
