Register Your Complaint,
Have you registered to vote?
If you have, that's great; but if
you haven't, then you are one
of a great number of people
between the ages of eighteen
and 25 who have not registered.
A self-formed committee of
students from Wake Forest, Bow
man Gray, Winston-Salem State,
N. C. School of the Arts and
Forsyth Tech are working now
to inform students of their rights
in registration and to encourage
young people to vote. They will
hold a voter registration rally
December 5 at The Dungeon.
There will be a free concert for
people wishing to register. Those
who wish to hear the concert
but do not wish to register will
be asked to pay $1.00 at the
door.
If you are confused about
where to register, first under
stand and consider the laws and
then decide.
1. North Carolina law states
that one may vote in state
elections after residency of
one year and in national
and local elections after
residency of 30 days. If
you do not intend to live in
your home precinct after
graduation, you can swear
your intention to stay in this
precinct and register.
2. The North Carolina Legis
lature has just passed a law
which states that North
Carolina voters can vote
absentee ballot in the pri
maries. You must request
TO BE HEARD, VOTE.
TO VOTE, REGISTER.
an absentee ballot no ear
lier than 35 days before the
primary and no later than
the Tuesday before the pri
mary. These ballots must
be signed in the presence of
a notary public. (Miss Simp
son will notarize absentee
ballots.)
You may register as a mem
ber of the Democrat, Re
publican, or American par
ties as "independent" or "no
party." Those who register
"independent" may not vote
in primaries. Those who
regisie/ "no party" may de
clare a party affiliation as
late as the day of the pri
mary. But this causes a lot
of trouble at the polls and
should be done earlier.)
. You must register 21 days
(excluding weekends and
holidays) before the date of
the primary. Thus the cut
off date for the May 5 pri
maries is April 3.
So get out and register!
