Page Eight one of my most enlightening ex periences. Just by talking and even more important listening the world becomes a far more inter esting place. Everyone can benefit by learn ing and growing together in all club activities. We all need to realize there is a world beyond our own personal one. TH€ SAL-EMIT€ VICKIE MOIR If elected president of Salem Forum, I will continue with much the same types of programs and activities. Having attended regu larly this year’s meetings, I know the programs have been entertaining and educational. I plan also to encourage participa tion in next year’s model U.N. While we are being represented this year, hopefully, we will be able to involve even a larger number next year. The experi ence I gain from attending the model U.N. in April should help me to encourage and advise those interested next year. Having ex perienced at the International Summer School in Oslo the in sight gained from contact with people of other cultures, I hope to carry through on an idea pro posed this year; some activity involving our own foreign stu dents, those of nearby colleges, and interested Salemites. Though keeping most of the same objec tives, I hope that by making our activities better known we can in volve more people. As for the Forum’s relation ship to other activities, I will en courage her past role in sponsor ing and supporting traditional ac tivities. Since budget organiza tions are open to and seek to serve all students, I feel club fees should remain a part of SGA dues. I believe that through meet ings at which all organizations are represented, the clubs can work together efficiently on week end activities, speakers, and other areas of general concern. FITS CHAIRMAN can be a huge success and with the good times the upperclassmen have shown us, it is already well on its way. GINGER HARRIS I’m Ginger Harris and I’m running for FITS Chairman. This job entails a lot of responsibility and must be run efficiently. For Founder’s Day and FITS Week to run smoothly they must be run efficiently. Preparation for these events must begin as soon as the FITS Chairman is elected. This will relieve a lot of pressure in the fall — people will already know what to do. More students must be involved! We have stu dents willing to work but no one asks them — I would ask for their help on committees. This would not only involve more students but spread the responsibility — responsibility yields efficiency. I want to keep Salem’s tradi tions alive as well as revive some older ones like May Day. People used to enjoy this event and I see no reason why they can’t enjoy it now. The only changes in the office of FITS Chairman I propose is to begin preparing for the next Founder’s Day this spring. Thus Founder’s Day will be less pushed and more enjoyable. I would work extremely hard to make FITS Week the best week in each Freshman’s year. I would also strive to involve more people in more things. Thank you for your support. man year at Salem. Two of the best ways of doing this are Founder’s Day and FITS Weel^ Therefore, participation in both by the entire student body is ex tremely important. As FITS Chairman, I would do my best to motivate everyone to take a more active part in Founder’s Day, promoting spirit far in advance of the actual day, and thus making Founder’s Day fun for everyone, not just a few. My goals for FITS Week are es sentially the same. Each activity should be purposeful, not merely designed to use up time. I feel that it is important to retain traditions. They help new students feel a part of the “Salem way of life”. They contribute to making Salem what it is and will be valued memories as we some day remember what Salem was. As I see it, the system of in cluding club fees in SGA fees is the surest way for clubs to obtain the money needed to function. Under the present system stu dents can feel they have con tributed to each club even if they cannot attend regular meetings. To improve communication be tween clubs and on campus, a news sheet could be printed at 2-3 week intervals giving some news item about each club. Other campus and class news could also be included. Copies of the large Refectory Calendar could be placed in each dorm to remind students of monthly activities. TERRI JANSEN I feel that getting to know upperclassmen is one of the most significant parts of one’s Fresh MICKIE WEBB I do not want to start off saying “if elected I promise to do the job to the best of my ability”, because I think every candidate promises this or otherwise she would not be running. The one thing I do promise is to perform my job efficiently. As to the question “How can I make my position more efficient?”, it would be hard to answer. I only hope that I could be as efficient as Kern Mims was. I am sure she KITTY GALLAGHER Having and getting to know your FITS big sister — remem bering names — participating in a pie eating contest on Founder’s Day — all of these are fantastic memories of FITS. Lost, befud dled and frantic, the freshman class arrives on the scene here at Salem C. Trying to organize a group such as this would be quite a job for anyone to handle, but I feel I could create a spirit worthy of all involved. FITS week and Founder’s Day are two Salem traditions which I believe should continue to be a major part of our environment. “Freshman Introduction to Salem” renders high spirits and participation for all, provided it is organized efficiently. I would do my best to involve everyone by attaining ideas and opinions concerning both events. After all, first impressions are the most im portant and the class of ’78 should be given a great outlook on their upcoming four years as a part of Salem. C. 28801 started planning early, kept things well organized, and gave everyone a chance to get involved. That is what I plan to do if elected — start planning early, keep things well organized, and get everyone involved; and I am sure if I get the kind of coopera tion that I am sure Kern got, then I have no doubts that I will function efficiently. In regards to the question, “How would I involve more stu dents in the organization of which I’m running?”, I would have to answer that I do not think that there would be many more ways to involve Salem stu dents in FITS. FITS is not only Freshman Introduction To Salem, but it is also Founder’s Day, and it is pretty evident that everyone is a part of Founder’s Day. If everyone was not a part of Founder’s Day then it just wouldn’t be. If elected FITS Chairman I would retain many of the tradi tions present on our campus that pertain to the office; but I would also change a few if that is what the majority of the student body desires. My decision will not be all mine. I will be working for the student body and I will try to do the things most desired by the majority of the students! Whether I agree or not. As far as club fees are con cerned, I do think they should be included in SGA fees for the simple reason that the clubs are for the students and the students are the SGA. Both involve and work for the same people, there fore their fees should be included as one.
