If you draw, paint, write free verse, read, or just enjoy being alive, then you should be a part of Incunabula, too. Incunab ula’s goal is to explore your main field and how it may relate to art. The activities that have been planned will give everyone a chance to get busy and really think about some stimulating new ideas. On Friday, September 20, Mar garet Mead, a leading authority in anthropology, will speak to students. Incunabula is helping to sponsor a discussion Thursday night, September 19, in Babcock Terrace at 6:30 in order to give students and faculty a chance to discuss Dr. Mead’s research and contributions to her field. This meeting will be an excellent way to gain some sort of a back ground for Dr. Mead’s lecture. Poets and education majors should be sure to hear Ardis Kim- zey, a poet from Raleigh. She will be on campus one weekend in October to conduct a writers’ workshop and to lecture on how to teach young children to write poetry. Anyone who plans to work with children should be sure to be at this workshop. Incunabula is sponsoring two exciting contests this semester. The photography contest is for anyone who enjoys taking pic tures. Any picture taken with any type of camera can be an entry. These entries will be judged by a professional photographer. The poetry contest has two categories. Structured poems, such as son nets, will be eligible for one cate gory, and poems written in a foreign language, such as Ger man, French, Spanish, or even Latin will make up the other category. No free verse will be accepted for this particular con test. The deadline for both the photography and poetry contest is Friday, October 25. Please put your entries in the Incunabula box or give them to any member of the Incunabula staff. Incunabula publishes the liter ary magazine once a semester. The deadline for the Fall, ’74 issue is November 1. The material which makes up Incunabula should be endless. Essays, short stories, free verse, structured verse, photographs, drawings and concrete poetry are just a few of the things that Incunabula needs to become a magazine which re flects the interests of Salem stu dents. Every field has possibili ties — don’t hesitate to turn in a math problem that you are proud of, or the drawing of a DNA molecule that you did in biology or an essay about physics as an art. Give Incunabula a chance to become the excellent magazine that It ought to be. Put your mind to work. Music Is Therapy! Mrs. Joan Jacobowsky spent two weeks this summer studying at the University of Kansas in connection with her sabbatical. Prompted by the interest of several of her students, Mrs Jacobowsky researched Music Therapy. The field of Mu c Therapy is basically a kind of special education working with he mentally retarded and emo tionally disturbed in the area of music. Mrs. Jacobowsky’s exper lence should benefit her stuSs know ledge of a new field of study.
