Page 4, The Salemite, February 26,1982 Jiist for the Record by Lee Richardson After looking over the LP charts for the week of Feb. 20, I noticed sliding down near the bottom (number 91 to be exact) was Neil Young and Crazy Horse’s - RE-AC-TOR album on the Reprise label. Before flowing off the charts, I felt that everyone should hear something about the legendary Mr. Young and his latest release. The album, RE-AC-TOR, proves once again that Neil Young is genuinely masterful in playing the guitar and generally pitiful in singing songs. His lyrics, however, add a touch of bizarre in tensity to the works which somehow makes listening enjoyable. My admiration must go out to anyone who can use “Got Mash Potatoes Ain’t Got No T-Bone’’ as verse. One gets the feeling Yoimg could sing any combination of slightly meaningful words and still produce similar sound effects. Even as a member of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, he sang “Helpless’’ly along. Actually, Neil Young has never possessed a melodious voice or a voice at all. That is just the reason for a person to like his style of music or not to like it. Outward Bound Program Explained Physical Education in 1925? Over 8,000 men and women, both adults and students, will take part in a unique program called “Outward Bound” this year. Designed so that par ticipants will meet challenging experiences in wilderness settings at all times of the year. Outward Bound courses take place in more than a dozen states. While many come to Outward Bound seeking a taste of high adventure ~ and they’ll probably get it - most will leave with a new un derstanding of themselves after discovering they are capable of doing things they might previously have thought “impossible.” SAB Raffle During the past week raffle-tickets were sold by Student Activities Board (SAB) to raise money towards the calendar-debt. Tickets were sold for $1 and Mary Anne Tuggle, director of SAB, urged all students to participate. “We want to avoid having to go to Salem Union to cover the debt,” she said. Tuggle also plans to use some of the money for a party for the students at the end of the semester. Prizes included a romantic dinner for two at J.J. Lindsay’s, a deli-pub, which recently opened in the Brookstown Mill; a haircut and a bottle of shampoo from G. Carlyle’s salon; a Salem sweatshirt and a pizza from PTA; a $6.98 record from the Record Exchange and a pizza (rom PTA; and finally, a large pizza from PTA. Tickets were sold in the refectory Monday through "’hursday and the drawing A'as held during dinner j’esterday. Winners will be .announced in the next edition cf the Salemite. Outward Bound believes many limits are self-imposed. Backpacking, moimtain- eering, rock climbing, canoeing, skiing, snowshoeing, sailing, cycling, rafting, and even caving form the core of the Outward Bound experience, depending on the environment in which the course takes place. Previous outdoor skills are unnecessary, as is special equipment other than per sonal clothing and boots. Each small group of students has one or more expert instructors and specialists who help them develop outdoor and in terpersonal skills. culminating in a “final ex pedition,” with minimal instructor supervision, relying on what they have learned during the course. Academic credit is often available, as is financial aid based on need. In addition, several Outward Bound schools offer no-interest tuition loan plans, some for up to three years. Outward Bound courses are offered year-round and last from five to 26 days.
