Developing Careers With Sarah Albritton
by Paige Parker
Sarah Albritton is the new
Director of Career
Development at Salem College.
Albritton received her B.A. in
economics at Wake Forest in
1982. She continued her
education at Florida State and
obtained a Masters Degree in
Higher Education
Administration. Albritton left
Florida and worked in Chicago
at Mundelein as Director of
Residence Life and Conference
Coordinator.
She married four years ago.
She and her husband decided to
come back to Winston-Salem
because they had both
attended school here. The
students and program at Salem
College were very attractive to
Albritton. She stated.
"Working at a women's college
is a real mission of mine. Men
have had plenty of role
models, and I want to work on
role modeling efforts for
women."
Albritton has many
responsibilities as Director of
Career Development. She is in
charge of all recruiters that
come to the campus as well as
the Job Fair. She is in the
process of designing a four year
career development program
that students can follow
through from their freshman
year until their senior year.
Albritton is quick to add that
the resource room also stores
material on all undergraduate,
graduate, and professional
schools in the Southeast.
A Sigi-Plus computer has just
been added to the resource
room. It assists students with
career choices starting with
general questions such as
values, activities, and
interests. There are 220
occupations listed in the
computer program.
Albritton enjoys music,
antiques, real estate, reading
about entrepreneur
opportunities and playing with
her dog. She seems to have
taken to Salem already. She
stated, "People have really
made me feel welcome. I've
never been at a place where I
have felt so immediately at
home. I want all students to
come in and see me at whatever
stage they're at. I challenge
people to be the best that they
can be and this office is the best
resource for that."

The criteria for the card was
based on good principle of

reflect the 20th century
heritage of the school. The
card s design was a wreath on
the front flap which was a
reproduction from a watercolor
found in the library archives.
The verse inside the card
reads,"May heavenly angels
guard you, until your Journey's
end." The verse was taken from
the autograph book of Maria
Theresia Petersen. It dates
back to 1876.
The Christmas card competed
with a few other colleges and
businesses in the state of North
Carolina.
Sarah Hunter's job requires
