Salem Athletics Start the Year Right
E' Team Brings Home the Ribbons

The Salemite
The Equestrian team is off to a run
ning start this semester. The first show
of the season was held at Ceder Hollow
FarmonSaturday,Septembcr29th. The
places are as follows:
Joan Pearce: 1st, 3rd, 3rd,
(Reserve Champion)
Melissa Murray: 3rd, 5th
Anne Harvey: 3rd, 5th
Jennifer Aber: 4th
Valerie Wickersham: 1st
Hotly Hudnor: 2nd, 5th
Coleen MacDonald: 5th
Everyone who rode came back to
campus with a ribbon! This semester
the Equestrian team is filled with tal
ented riders whether they are veterans
or beginners with lots of potential. The
semester is shaping up to be a very
exci ting one. If you would like to share
in the excitement, please feel free to
join us at our next show on October 27.
Team jackets are here!!! Please come and
pick yours up from Melissa in 204 South
before Fall Break. After that time they will
not be available until next semester.
Tennis Team
Begins Swinging

The Salemite
The Salem College Tennis Team spent
a weekend in Raleigh at the Meredith
College Tennis Tournament. The team
did very well, especially considering
that many of their competitors were on
athletic scholarships.
Representing Salem was Jennifer Pratt,
Gretchen Nachtigal, Hope Lamm, Jen
nifer King, Angela Aaron, Margaret
Lamm, and Lisa Findlay. Jennifer Pratt
and Gretchen Nachtigal made it to the
semifinal rounds, Jennifer King lost in
the finals, and Hop>e and Margaret
Lamm made it to the semifinals in
doubles. The team had a lot of fun
hanging out in Raleigh with Coach
McEwen.
Editors' Note: Jennifer King won the Wake
Forest Intramurals - Single Women’s
Tennis on October 8.
