Salem Students Need to
Think of Others Rather
Than Themselves
I, Susie Salem, do not understand some
of the student body.
On Tuesday, October 30, little boys
and girls were seen dressed up in cos
tumes roaming around Salem. They
were going from dorm to dorm trick-
or-treating. However, when they en
tered some dorms there were only one
or two people who had signed up to
distribute candy to them.
People at Salem put a lot of time and
energy into setting up these events for
students and the little kids.
Most people had excuses that they were
too busy. Yes, too busy getting ahead.
Well, it's great to get ahead, but you
must think of the kids who might not
even have an opportunity to get ahead.
Unfortunately, they were bom into this
world less fortunate than you. They
are starting at the bottom and trying to
move up. You at least have the advan
tage of starting in the middle. These
kids look up to us, but what do we
show them? We show them that we are
uncaring and too caught up in our
selves. We are not the role models we
should bo.
We all need to take a little time to stop
and think. There are other things more
important than ourselves and our frivo
lous issues. Service to the community
is important. Once in a while, we
should think of others before we think
of ourselves.
