I knew that my junior year abroad at the niversity of Reading in Reading, England would be a huge learning §xperience for me, but one thing I did not know was how much I take for granted at Salem. I miss the friendly smiles and hellos from every person 1 pass on campus, and I miss the fact that the entire school is my friend. 1 miss the never ending SGA meetings and the security of Public Safety. 1 miss Fall Fest, Interclub, quiet hours. Happy Half Hour, the swimming pool, and 3rd floor Gramley. There are about a million things I miss about the Refectory; Wayne needs to come over here and teach the British a few things. Believe it or not, I really miss napkins; my dining hall couldn't seem to work napkins into their budget. I miss the salad bar and the limitless supply of beverages; water is the only beverage served in my dining hall. You would think in Eng land they would at least serve tea. Pota toes are served at every meal in every imaginable form. 1 know Wayne would never do this with potatoes, broccoli yes, but not potatoes. Most of all I miss my friends, my Sa lem sisters. 1 think of you all every day and wonder what you're up to, of course if you would write me I would know. Please don't think I am over here wal lowing in self-pity; I am having a super time! I have been to discos and pubs and all the excitement of London is just a 20 minute train ride away. I have joined the swim team, and I am taking ballroom dancing lessons, which is a guaranteed hour of laughing one night a week. Getting lost and being told how American I look and sound are also common occurrences. Well, my British history book is calling my name, so cheerio! Mineral Springs is geared to any and all forms of interaction, and they welcome total creativity in dealing with their students. Working with Mineral Springs allows students freedom to explore many facets of the workings of a middle school. About a year and a half ago I found out about the partnership Salem had taken on. It is a business partnership in which both participants benefit. I had no idea how much I would benefit as a result of my involve ment. My participation has not only helped me to learn more about myself and what Td like to do after college, it has also allowed me to make a great deal of neat friends inside my Salem community. I honestly look forward to my weekly trips to Mineral Springs and am quite thankful for such a special opportunity for growth and enrichment. There are a number of things to be done-just use your imagination. Many students have adopted a class or a stu dent that may need a little extra sup port. Come see me or Sarah Albritton or call Mineral Springs Middle School at 767-2332 if you have questions or are interested. GET INVOLVED! Editors' Note: Watch for the Mineral Springs Expressions Page appearing soon in The Sa lemite. We encourage you to consider the Mineral Springs experience as a possible commu nity service project. ! 1,
