March 4,1993 Page 5 Students Tour Germany, Austria by Kristin Majors January 7,1993 marked the begin ning of a three week trip through Germany and Austria for seven Sa lem students and the German profes sor, Adam Steiner. The seven troopers were Heather Carlin, Mika Fujimoto, Ann Greene, Cary Hodges, Kristan Majors, MeridethWaltzek, andLamie Yuson. The trip began in Munich,Germany where the students spent eight days. They then moved on to a three day visit to Salzburg, Austria, and ended with eight days in Vienna, Austria. Shoppring, German beer, art muse ums, operas, ballets, discotheques, and castles were highlights of the trip. Besides the aching feet, the food dif ferences, the language barrier, and the never-ending bags of luggage, the trip proved to be not only an educa tional experience, but also a memo rable one. One of the trips this past January that students had the opportunity to go to Australia. Be cause the last trip to Australia two years ago was such a hit, the course was offered again. The ages of the students who attended the trip ranged from freshmen to continuing educa tion students. The main jjurpose of the trip “down under” was to educate students about Australia and it’s culture. One of the students, Nina Byrne said, “It was the experience of a lifetime and I recom mend it to anybody who gets the opportunity.” Some of the highlights of the trip included climbing Ayers Rock, spending time in the Outback with the Aborigines, snorkling on the Great Barrier Reef, and a night of culture in Sydney at the famous Opwra House.
