account of the death of Mrs. Eatmon,
sister of Minnie Belle, and cousin of

During the last two months, the
General Science class of The Bailey
High School, under the direction of
Miss Irene Sexton, has been making
a careful study of simple machines,
transmission of liquids and electri
city.
While studying single jnachines,
we performed several experiments in
the laboratory with the inclined
plane and differential pulleys. In
addition to that, the class went to
the garage and cotton gin for the
purpose of seeing different types of
machines in operation. When this
study was completed, practically ev
ery member of the class had gained
much important information about
every day problems.
During the study of transmission
of liquids, we learned the principals
of the hydraulic press and the lift
pumps and several other instruments
that make use of liquids. We per
formed several interesting experi
ments while studying this"^ subject.
During the study of electricity,
the class learned the different found
ers of electricity and how these men
developed their knowledge and learn
ed to make such instruments as elec
tric motors, generators, electric
lamps and many other electrical con
trivances that make use of electricity
as a form of energy. This study has
been the most interesting one in
science this year.

To teach
Is not alone to tell
A thing or two and say it well
And knock into the denser pates
A repertoire of facts and dates.
To teach
Is not alone to drill
And force to march up learning’s hill
Upon their bowed and weary legs
A squad of little human pegs.
To teach
Is not alone to curb
Unruly youths who school disturb—
And make reports and hand out
grades
And deal with pupils as with shades.
To teach?
It is to reach, to find
The hidden laws of growing mind;
In boy to see the coming man.
Then shape him to a splendid plan—
This is to teach.
