Learning to live; living to serve." Their farm practice pro grams or projects on the home farm give the ag. boys an bpportunity to put into practice some of the things learned. In this connection, ad viser Leamon Tapp points out; "Individuals do not learn things by merely REA. AND EH.A.PLAN FOR ANNUAL BANQUET studying about them, for v/e have not learned a thing until it has been made a part of us. It fol- loviTs, then,that some doing is necessary before learn ing is achieved. "Homo practices are the things that make it poss ible for the boy to learn. Doing should result in .some earning, because the satisfaction from earning is an incentive for ting forth more effor^ using improved methods of farming. "The greatest achieve ment of nan is the service he renders; therefore the living of a life to the fullest extent requires the performing of the four things in the FFA motto," GloverProduces Hybrid S© © d For part of his last year's farm practice pro gram Keith Glover produced approximately bb bushels of T23 hybrid seed corn on one acre, By alternating two rows of hybrid with one row of Jarvis golden prolific corn and planting the out side rows in the field with Jarvis he received the proper pollination for his hybrid cross. After detassiling and pul ling the corn,Keith dried and treated It to prevent loss from rot or insects. Ag.Boys Prepare Demonstration Completing this portion of their yearly recreation al activities the Future Farmer and Home Ec. depart ments are planning to have their annual Father and Son - Mother and Daughter banquet at the Bailey club house December 17. Approximately fifteen out side guests besides the mothers and fathers have been invited. The supper, consisting of barbeque, slav;, potatoes, ice cream and cake, -will be prepared and served by the Home Ec. girls. By holding eliminations now, the ag. boys are se lecting the v/inner who v/ill represent the Bailey chapter at Red Oalc on Dec ember lo in the Lecture Demonstration Contest. Three delegates, one of whom will give the demon stration, the ag. teacher, and the principal from each school in the feder ation will attend the meet ing. The winner will re ceive a banner for the chapter he represents. The demonstrations that the boys decided to give consisted of sharpening chisels, judging beef cat tle, tieing knots, apply ing cyanimid and uramon on tobacco beds, soldering, using the framing square, applying first-aid, sharp ening jack planes, -and caring for home orchards, Keith Glover is nov/ load ing in the chapter contest.
