NORTH CAROLtNA Page 17 Learning To Do Doing To Learn, CL Earning To Live Living To Serve BAILEY WINS SECOND PLAl IN HOZEDURlCONltSf 5|-^opV^br^ Continues Competing in the parli- mentary procedure contest conducted during a regular Kash-Edgecombe federation meeting in the I.!iddlcsex agricultural building, Lferch 6, the Bailey team, consisting of Isaac Medlin, Harry Lee Nixon, Irvin Finch Jr., and Keith Glo ver, v;on second place, r/iddlesex rated first. After numbers were drawn to determine the order of competing, rules of the contest were explained by T. B. Elliott, district F. F. A. supervisor. At the beginning of each demonstration the presi ding officer drew a card containing four items of business to be disposed of by his team. The president then read the subject, ex plained the requirements BOMa N&^ ACVISCR I. D. Boswell is now teaching the Bailey agri cultural classes,replacing Thomas Finch, who has been directing the ag. work since Leamon Tapp's resig nation. Thomas Finch, former FFA advisor, stopped teaching to begin work on the farm. Ur. Bosv;ell v/ill continue these duties for the re mainder of the year. to the judges, and turned the card over to the secre tary. Follovjing the opening ceremony the secretary re read each of the four sub jects and abilities, which were then discussed and disposed cf separately. The closing ceremony con cluded the procedure. The Middlesex team, by disposing of their busi ness v/ith the least number of mistakes, was placed first by the judging com mittee, consisting of the advisors of the competing chapters. Repair and construction v/ork has consumed most of the shop hours of the Bai ley Future Farmers for the past few weeks. To gain skill and prac tice in woodwork, the ag-, boys have made radio ta bles, what-nots, tooth brush holders, chicken brooders, hog feeders, and numerous other useful arti cles. V/orking with the assort ment of power tools and hand tools available in the shop gains for the classes experience, and at the same tina serves as an opportunity to practice safety measures constantly. VETERANS CRGANI7£ AMERICAN LEGION During the first meeting of the Bailey Chapter of the iLTierican Legion held in the agriculture build ing February 25, fifty mem bers were enrolled. Commander Whitley, Mr. Vance Morgan, Mr. Adkins, and Mr. Boyd from the T/il- son chapter were present at the m.seting to help with the organization. Officers for the new chap ter were elected as fol lows : Commander Dan E. Chris tian First Vice-commander-- Earnest R. Francis Second Vice-commander- Ed Cozart Adjutant-Finance officer Thomas Finch Chaplain—R. W. Jones Sgt. of Arms-John M. San ders The veterans will hold their regular meetings on the first Monday night of each month. All veterans of Y/orld War I and II with an honorable discharge are elgible to join the organization and are invited to attend the meetings in the Bailey Ag. building.
