1949 BAofY BUGLE 1950 HOME EC. DEPT. HEADS SCHOOL NEED LIST A new Home Economics Building and a lunch room along with other items are needed re ports Mr. M.W. Weaver, principal, to meet modern conditions and provide adequate room in Bailey School. When the Home Eco nomics Building is a reality, the science laboratory with new supplies will be moved into the present Home Ec. Department and thereby have the need ed room. PLAYGROITJD As conditions now are, the playgrounds are much too near the classrooms. While the grammar grade students are outside playing, high school students are having class. Often times the high school students are interrupted by the noise. Extending the present playgrounds would help make it safer and quieter for the entire school is the opinion of the principal. OFFICE SECRETARY To lessen the burden on the principal and teachers, an office secretary is needed to keep books, further adds Mr. Weaver. Today high school students keep the li brary. A full time li brarian is another need. Other programs and projects are expected ■*■0 follow soon. Among hese would be a pro- ect of beautifying COMMENCEMENT TO BEGIN Mi The Reverend Porter and NEW GRADING SYSTEM GOES INTO EFFECT In an attempt to raise the standards of the school and to have a fairer system of conduct grading, the students and faculty have worked out a point system. A major ity of both students and teachers agreed to this plan. By this system each student is graded ac cording to the number of points designated for each offense. This method puts each student on his honor to control the number of points against him. It -also enables the student to know at all times the way his con duct grade stands. Points vary according to the offense commit ted. the school grounds and buildings. Physical Education and Health Programs, Vocational and Distributive occu pations, a Guidance Program for the stu dents, and a student counselor. Mr. Weaver closed his discussion by noting: "With what we have and what we hope to have the school may expect to fill its place in the building of a better commuiilty In cooperation with the home and church. B. Porter, Superin tendent of Raleigh District, Methodist Church, May ll|, at 11 o’clock in the sbhool auditorium. Dr. R. E. Earp, District Highway Commissioner, will de liver the commencement address. May Iti, at 8 o'clock. CLASS DAY PROGRAM For their class day exercise the seniors will offer ”0f Foot prints and Time", May 17, at 8 o'clock. MUSIC RECITALS Mrs. G. C. Johnson will present her students in recitals on Friday evenings, April 28 and May 5» SENIORS EDIT BUGLE Seeing the Bailey Bugle discontinue cir- cuiation in 19U8, the seniors of 1950 deci ded to keep its memory alive by editing one issue covering the year’s news. A special section is devoted to senior activities. News articles, fea tures, and editorials became English assign ments and were graded as themes. Publication expenses have in part been covered by receipts from advertisements and by subscription sales. Additional ex penses were paid from class funds.
