Staff Attends Two
.Press Institutes
Ten of the 17 members of-,
the journalism class and
one adviser represented
the Bailey BUGLE at the
Scholastic Press meetings
at East Carolina College
and the University of
North Carolina this month, .
Those attending the meet
ing at ECG were PEGGY BRAS
WELL, BARBARA BOYKIN, and
KEITH GLOVER. The BUGLE
won a plaque for the best
mimeographed paper there,
PRESENTATION
It was announced by the
Press officials that the
plaque would later be pre
sented at a Bailey school
assembly.
Staff members going to

WIGGS, CELIA MAY, ALICE R.
ISSETTE, and JEWEL WHITLEY.
While there, the students
were divided into groups
of two to attend the var
ious classes.
VISITS EXHIBITS
During their lunch period
the group visited the
North Carolina rooms in
the University library.
Most reports from those
attending the University
Institute have been that
"helpful points were gain
ed" and the "best" program
of the day was a panel dis
cussion presented on "How
To Have A Prize Winning
Paper" by the Central High
School representatives
from Charlotte,
MLss Edith Farmer’s first
year algebra class has at
least one person out of
every home room in high
school.

'Patrol Continues
For the second year,
Bailey High School has a
safety patrol.
The patrol is made up of
grammar grade boys—Bill
Boykin, Bob Johnson, R, S.
Harrison, David Ruffin ,
and Charles Hathaway,
Stoplights in front of
the school, at Bissette's
Texaco Center, and at Jas
per Finch's are patrolled ,1
The boys patrol the signal
lights each afternoon from
3:15 until most of the stu
dents have passed on their
way home,
"The purpose of having
these patrolled is to get
Bailey students into the
habit of practicing safe
ty," says the Principal.
