Physical Ed. Has
Its Variety For
Tlie Boys In Class
By Bill Taylor
On any sunny day if you hap
pen to look out on the athletic
field , beside the school, you will
see a lot of strange things. At
fifth period a group of boys’ are
always running around. One daj«*
I looked out and saw them “get
ting drunk”. Well, I don’t mean
getting drunk with “fine wines
and liquors”. These boys were
playing a game.
There were two teams playing
this strange game. All the boys on
a team were lined up one beMnd
another. The fellow at the first of
the line would take a stick, run
to a designated spot on the ground,
stick the end of the stick in the
ground and then run around and
around the stick. When the boys
tried to run back to his starting
point he had quite a hard time.
First he would stumble, then stag
ger from one side to thee other,
finally after a few falls get back,
and another boy would try to do
the same thing all over again. »
After one team won they start
ed another game. The same two
teams would line up on the track
facing opposite directions. The
person at the head of each line
would start running around the
track in different directions. Some
of the boys ran fast, while some
ran slow. Finally I grew so tired
that I had to quit watching.
One day when you aren’t doing
anything fifth period, go out and
watch the boys for yourself. Bet
ter still, try to take part in the
games yourself.

Weatherly Speaks
To French Cluh
Mr. Dick Weatherly was the
guest speaker at the first meeting
this year of the French Club.
Mr. Weatherly told the club
about his work in French. Last
summer he and some other men
recorded the songs and fables of
a little village near New Orleans
in which the inhabitants speak
Old French. He suggested that
the club adopt a French family as
one of their projects.
He is going to study at the Uni
versity of Paris as an exchange
student for a year.

Cheerleaders
Put In Hard Work
For A Long Time
By Lou York
“A suzie one, a suzie two.” No
doubt if »you -have to any of the
football games, bonfires, or to the
pep meetings you have heard and
seen -the cheering squad.
The squad first started practic
ing on August 4. It was very hot
weather, and sometimes they
could hardly stand it. But Her
man Vinson, the head cheerleader,
was determined they would prac-
tic from 7:30 to 9:00 eveiry Mon
day, Wednesday, and Thursday.
They have rules and regulations
just as other organizations do. |
Members say they have a lot of
fun practicing. Sometimes Her
man gets so mad with the mem
bers that he almost resigns.
With each practice they realize
they achieve more coordination,
and they really don’t mind the
work.
After all, practice makes per
fect!
