Howard stands 5 ft. 10 in., tips the scale at 140, and was born in Durham, July 1(5, 1931. Howard won a letter in foot ball last season, and in baseball two years ago as catcher. He also rates well in school activities, being Junior Class president and assistand advertis ing manager on the Hi Nows. Caudill likes to wear dungarees, brogans and sweaters, and likes to see girls wearing sweaters and skirts. He denies carrying the tourch for a certain girl, but in stead says he likes 'em all. His favorite movie stars are Esther Williams and Alan Ladd and his favorite song is “It’s All Over Now.” During last summer he was counselor at Camp Tuscarora, Boy Scout Camp, as bugler and instructor In pioneering. At present he plans to study medicine at Duke University after graduation. In the past two issues of the Hi Nows, we have featured four members of the Varsity squad in the Sportraits column. It is only fitting, then, that this time we honor two members of the Junior Varsity squad. From the line, we have chosen Kenneth Jefferson Allen, the starting right tackle. “Skippy," as he is more widely known, has started all games and played the major .part of every game in this, his first year, of football. Skippy is vice president of the sophomore class and an active member of the Goldmasquers. He had a leading part in the recent presentation of “Nothing But the Truth.” His favorite movie Is “The Year ling” and he likes photography and classical music. Skippy says, “I’m sorry that football season is over, I liked to play the game for GHS. Skippy wants to matriculate at Davidson or Carolina after high school, and we’re sure he will be as well liked and successful in college as he is here. THE DOPE BUCKET January first saw football exit witli a final splash of glory as the number one teams of the nat ion clashed in the different bowls throughout the country. All over the nation the magic of that word starts people talking about their favorite team, speculating on their chances to be conference winners. Here In our own high school, however, something seems to be lacking. There is no ringing cheers, no thrills, to the name of basketball. Why? ? ? It was almost the same during tiie ’47 football campaign, a very definite lack of enthusiasm sur rounds our sports events, especi ally at the pep rallies.
