\ APRIL 16, 1948 Goldsboro Hi News Page 'xi.. Evangelist Is Speaker For SA Evangelist Clarence Bass spoke on the general theme of life at a recent SA devotional. He said that when we begin to look at life, we must go back to its origin. Life cannot be placed in a test tube or under a microscope as it is not a visible thing. There is a higher being, God, who created life. The speaker stated that man is a rational, personal, ethical creature. At first Adam was able to communicate with God, but sin broke the relationship. Life itself can only be happy, joyful, and peaceful if man is happily related with God. The life that is not properly related and adjusted to God is not right or good. Before his talk, Jackie Du Bois saQg a number, accompanied by Ann Johnson. Dr. William Howard Carter of the Tabernacle Church introduced the speaker. Some of the staff of the HI NEWS recognized about twenty of them. See how many you know! In case you haven’t already found out, the last pictures in this column were of Erline Griffin and Miller Eason. Sally’s Ears Hi, Yabs! Well, whether you like the things I i^rint or not, you might just as well enjoy them— that is, if you want to be one of the last to remember a gossip column. From the way we were rated {gossip columns) among other papers this looks like the downfall, if there can be such a thing for us, of GHS dirt flingers. I hear that we have a few stu dents who like to play in the park at night. Is this right, Ed, El. Anthony Wayne Service Station TEXACO PRODUCTS Comer James and Mulberry Mimi, and Julian ? Tell me, which monkey snores the loudest or did you keep too much fuss? Yes sir! Lib Smith had better watch out. I heard the other day that she had a crush on David S. If this statement is true, and I think it is, she had better watch Ruth F. I hear they had a nice time the other Sunday night. Do you know the definition of gossip? Webster defines the word as idle talk on which we all will agree, but on his next statement I'm disagreeing. He says, “one who is used in gossip is formerly a sponsor, neighbor, or friend.” I talk about things and people in this column who never are and never will be my friends and those who formerly were still are—I hope. At any rate, if you don’t like what is printed about you, speak up and if you like to have gossip in your paper, PLEASE GOLDSBORO MUSIC COMPANY 221 N.
