Bertha Alyene Rollins, Idle Chatter The room is stealthly quiet. No sound is detictable but a sharp tap, tap, tap. The door is locked; shades are drawn and the room blazes with iight. A harrowed figure runs his fin gers through his hair, thinking intensely; watching the minutes tick away. Tomorrow was the day. He must hurry. He must be through. Why oh, why had he waited till the last minute. Suddenly, as if forced, he swings into action. He works quietly, almost wretchedly for several minutes. Muttering un der his breath, he throws the work aside. Once more he tires; again throwing it aside. He begins again, again — and again. Finally, the floor is lit tered with his work. He sits still, strangely motionless, star ing into space. His body moves as he stretches out in the chair and he squints at the ceiling. Suddenly he becomes full of life and a smile forms on his woe begone face. He begins to laugh like a madman, and kicks the scattered pap>ers aside tempest uous by. And then, just as quidly as it, began, he calms down, be gins work again and is once more the figure of despair. He goes about his work with sobrie ty and determination. And af ter hours and hours of work, he takes the paper out of the type writer and begins to xead his work. ^ Yes, he has at last decided “what responsibility the United States should have in world af fairs.” Junior Quakes Drop Four Of Past 5 Games Maxmilian F | -in, Malcolm Jack Burruss. ■» Phon« JftIO We are with you aJl tJie w»y G.
